Softmodding your wii is not illegal. Playing backups is not illegal, but downloading games even if you own them is illegal. So when you back up your games, legally, you need to rip them yourself.

This makes no sense to me.

Who the hell actually backs their games up I mean legit as in buys a game and wants to protect it that bad they back it up. And if there really are any people like that out there.

Meee! I got this thing since I was a kid that everything that I buy should be as mint as new. I like the game case's fresh smell and discs without scratches. Another reason for my "overprotecting" behavior is that when I try to sell games in excellent conditions people usually are willing to pay more than if they look older and/or scratched (at least it works for me).

The reason people are replying a little mad at you was the fact that you generalized all gbatempers as pirates. Other than that I +1 some points you mentioned earlier.

You can soft mod your wii.

You can play backups, they just have to be made from the original disc. You can't download games online, even if you own them.

I'm a black belt in tae kwon do and capable of causing some serious damage... does that make me a murderer? No, killing someone would make me a murderer, and pirating a game would make me a pirate. Studying martial-arts/softmodding doesn't imply murder/piracy.

^^He aint kidding. You should see what he can even to with foam covered nun-chucks.

But does this mean that you can't be both a pirate and a murderer? The best of both worlds.

If you want to make a reference to everybody in the thread, at least make sure you've read all the comments. I'm not bullshitting or ignorant with my previous post. Just cautious, as I'm not a lawyer.
Sifjar and drewmerc also provided correct information, and now twiztidsinz as well (I can also +1 that "it's legal to make a copy for personal use only", btw).

Since nobody on gbatemp has outed themselves as a lawyer, I believe that it's safe to assume that nobody on here -knows- what they're talking about, at least with regards to law. They just think they do.

I also find it funny that only the OP and Xflak are Canadian. Canadian law, people. Non-Canadians are probably not experts on Canadian law.
