Laptop LCD changing?

So I got a laptop with a broken LCD, I got another broken laptop with good LCD. I've already tested it is compatible and it does work in the laptop with the broken LCD. The problem is the cable is too short!

I'm thinking about extending it manually, meaning cut the wire, and add to it one by one (there is like 40 LITTLE wires in there :o ) but I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can buy an extender or possibly some kind of custom cable that will extend the length?

I know it can be extended as long as you don't screw with the inverter. I'd rather spend a couple bucks than spend a few hours doing all this.

Not all laptops are the same even the cables... you have NO chance of manually extending the cable....

If they ARE the same panel then the cables can be SWAPPED, on the back of the panel, the cable that is ther will have a connector into the PANEL under some Silver Tap...just SWAP these CABLES out.

I've already tested it is compatible and it does work in the laptop with the broken LCD.

it works they are both compaq, just model # differs slightly, the connectors are the same, the backlight is different, original is ccfl new one is LED. I have connected it to the broken one and it works.

Well did you read my post....
on the back of the panel, the cable that is ther will have a connector into the PANEL under some Silver Tap...just SWAP these CABLES out.
If you cant swap the connector in the PANEL then your stuffed...

Ps how your swapping from a ccfl to an LED screen is a good one and you may find the LED's may get damaged with incorrect voltages (I presume you are bypassing the Inverter...)

no im not bypassing it. its the same connector since its the same brand of laptop. compaq uses a lot of standard parts in their machines. the cq series are very similar hardware just minor differences.

i would have just swapped the cables but since its two different back lights they are not the same.

maybe this will help you see what i mean:

LCD Screen -> flat ribbon cable on back side -> connects to motherboard.

on the broken laptop its a CCFL backlight so the ribbon cable is different when connecting to the LCD, but its the same when connecting to the motherboard. the good LCD i have uses LED backlight but its the SAME MOTHERBOARD connection. it functions fine. the only problem is the laptop housing is different, the motherboard connector needs to be longer, i can cut it one by one and extend it, but i'd rather have a cleaner option.

this thread is meant to see if someone knows where i can buy a longer cable, not advice on pc hardware, i know what i am doing. i appreciate your response dont get me wrong
