A few of the games I have burned onto DVD-R's are having difficulties running. Primarily Persona 4, Digital Devil Saga, and Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis.
Persona 4's lag is bearable (no pun intended), but it's kind of annoying because it takes some time for voices to load, and there's lag involved when doing anything besides regular physical attacks.
Digital Devil Saga is probably the least laggy; it only lags occasionally in battle when I use an item or a skill.
In Mana Khemia, the game is nearly unplayable, almost as laggy as the PSP version. Long loading times, bad framerate drops in cutscenes and battles, the whole nine yards.
I don't know what's causing this. I don't think it's the PS2's laser, because all of my other games work just fine. I'm using ImgBurn to write the image files onto the disc, and I always write at a 1-2x speed. I'm using Verbatim DVD-R's (16x, 4.7 GB).
