Hacking ktemkin drama

I can assure you, if Gen 8 is instead revealed to be an exclusive for the Xbox One, SciresM would crack open that bad boy faster than that horrible excuse of meme ever could.
I'm just saying... Many have tried, none have successfully done it. And the one exploit that did exist got patched damn quick by Microsoft.

Their security is on point.

And I'm saying that if you haven't noticed then I might be slightly joking around here, uh...

We could discuss whether or not Xbox One was not hacked for various reasons in comparison to all other consoles (namely Nintendo) but that's off-topic. I'd much rather prefer shitposting while the iron is hot :P

Xbox One isn't hacked likely because no one cares. Solid console, but there's far more interesting pursuits out there.

This. Dev mode has been achieved, which gives the end goal of homebrew/unauthorized apps while keeping piracy at bay.

Ok, I know I'm playing Devil's Advocate here, and I'm probably gonna get flamed... but maybe ktemkin just did us a big favor?

We've seen these new "unhackable" Switches hit the shelves. This "new exploit" is probably applicable to them, and ReSwitched will probably end up releasing it soon now that there's no point in keeping it hidden. Now we will be able to hack these new Switches, and there's probably a decent amount of time between now and when the first Mariko units hit shelves, hopefully enough time to find yet another exploit. Or maybe she had doubts that this exploit would have ever worked on Mariko to begin with.

And instead of waiting forever before it gets released, we can benefit from this exploit now (or at least very soon).

I could be wrong, it's just an idea. Apparently she left the original author's name in the disclosure, and if I've heard correctly, she didn't receive any money from the hack. If she was really trying to steal credit for it, I think she would have been smart enough to remove all traces of the original author first, that kinda seems like a common sense thing to do.

This really helps no one. A handful more of Switches will be vulnerable, woopie.

At the cost of millions in the future.

Microsoft allows homebrew on the Xbox One with the dev program. Only real reason to hack the Xbox One would be to pirate games and a majority of them are cracked on PC launch day.

So what does this mean? Our chances to coldboot or warmboot via software only on up to 4.1 have been burned or is still not reported?

I mean 4 the new Mariko that some ppl say part of the exploit still works on FW5...
I don’t think it has been disclosed exactly which bug was reported, it is presumably one we don’t know about.

The silver lining is that this bug may be released once it is patched, but it would be a waste given F-G already exists.

Why....why would someone use this as an excuse to be transphobic??
Check the Twitter responses. All the transphobes are crawling out of the woodwork.

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
