I thought this was going to use DSi features to enhance the game? Therefore the game would run in DSi mode and not be rom-able. No?

Exactly. Anyone looking for the enhanced features will have to wait until DSi mode gets hacked into.

Current flash cards can RUN on a DSi, they just can't function much more than as a ds lite though.

The extra support also comes from the DSi's added horsepower so before people get ideas about "unlocking" it don't waste your time, it's liable to crash or freeze when you try to pull too much out of it.

And yeah, a synthesizer on my DS sounds pretty cool to me

I'd gladly pay money for it, except I'm too busy with other games right now
