Looks like Microsoft is taking a good step in the right direction

Microsoft chief executive officer Steve Ballmer has hinted to the BBC that he will formally support PC use of the Kinect motion controller in the near future, saying Microsoft "will support that in a formal way in the right time".

He also discusses the influx of apps and the resurgence of Apple. Ballmer says that "Apple's business is Apple's business" but says that the largest app eco-system in the world still belongs to the PC.

Cool. Open source drivers would be awesome, but official Windows support is definitely a step in the right direction. I wonder if they will support two (or more) Kinects at once?

It's a good idea to be honest, why limit the kinect peripheral to just Xbox gaming?

I reckon it might come with a Home Enterainment Station so you acn plug it into your TV aswell and 'kinect' your way through movies and menus on your digital TV... welcome back DVD-on-TV adventure games in that case!

Is this really news? There are already open source drivers and people were already playing WoW with it...


So basically Microsoft is just saying it's ok to do what people were already doing.

Their claim of official support likely means official drivers and perhaps a client or interface... though they may lock down features (which people will likely unlock).

Nah it will be drivers with a closed API. You'll probably have to buy a license to use it, and it will be limited to how they are "meant" to be used.

Anyway, this would be cool.
