PS1/2 just got a ps2

i just got a ps2 from ebay and I got a DRE, but I was able to fix it by following online guides and cleaning the laser and what not. I was wondering if this is to happen again can i use the network adapter to hook up a hard drive to my ps2?

is there a place where people sell normal ps2 memory cards with esr installed on it.
