Sorry to post another DIOS MIOS thread but I figured I'd keep it separate instead of hijacking someone else's.

I've been trying for the past 2 days to get DIOS MIOS running on my wii. It seems like I've done everything...

I have:
- Formatted my USB HDD (WD My Book 500GB USB 2.0) multiple times. Verified FAT32 32k cluster.
- Formatted My SD Card to FAT32 64k cluster.
- Made sure my USB only has one partition, set to 'Primary' and 'Active'
- Updated all my cIOS
- Updated all my loaders (I have tried WiiFlow, USB Loader GX, NeoGamma, DIOS MIOS Loader, and CFG)
- Tried running it on USB with DM 2.6, 2.9 and 2.10 and on my SD with DML 2.10
- Tried converting the game (Super Mario Sunshine) using different programs (DMToolbox, Gamecube Iso Tool) and different formats (GcReEX and DiscEx)
- Tried different games (Luigi's Mansion, Paper Mario)
- Tried with a disc in the drive (Wii Sports), without a disc in the drive, with and without the 'no dvd' setting enabled. The disc drive seems to always try to spin.
- Tried with or without NMM (I want to keep it enabled because I don't have a memory card)

And so on...
Every single time I've tried booting up a GC game, regardless of the loader or whether I'm trying from SD of USB, it gives me the same DIOS MIOS splash screen and says 'fatal error app loader size is zero!' or occasionally 'al error app_entry is not within the app loader area' but I'm not exactly sure how to reproduce that one.

Here's a syscheck:

I am at a loss. I want to get Super Mario Sunshine running for my girlfriend because it was a special game to her as a kid. Any ideas?

Indeed. Some Harddrives just don't work. Which one are you using? WD?

What you might also check is what loader are you using? Dios Mios is made for loading of a HDD on USB. Dios Mios lite is actually made for disc drives.
When you post a sys check of your Wii we can analyse it further.

EDIT:

What region Wii do you have? And what Region are you trying to play? I found out my PAL Wii really hates US and JAP iso's...

I posted a sys check in spoiler tags in the first post.

TheChield yes, wii games work just fine from the USB drive.

B4rtj4h Yes, the drive is a WD My Book 500gb. I've tried every loader I could find. My understanding from the dios mios page is that DM is for USB and DML is for SD. Could you point me to a version of dios mios that's supposed to work for SD cards? I'm fine with running it off the SD, but I tried with DML 2.10 and it did the same thing as it was doing with the regular DM.

Edit: Well, it's an NTSC Wii, and the Super Mario Sunshine iso I'm trying to run is indeed PAL, but the NTSC Paper Mario doesn't want to run either. Wouldn't I get a different error if it were just the region of the game?

I've used all the loaders I listed. It doesn't matter if I use dios mios booter, wiiflow, usb loader gx, neogamma, or cfg loader. They all give me the same thing, even if I don't have any options enabled. 'fatal error app loader size is zero!'

Try using different loaders again: I use Wiiflow
Try using different tools :I use DiscEX
Set directory of games in the loader you use to find them on the USB1
Or SD

With the hard drive plugged in, try to load an actual gamecube disk that is known to work. Does DIOS MIOS work with a real disk?

Well, I tried a usb flash drive and it did the same thing. The retail game worked. I tried a different region of luigi's mansion (NTSC vs PAL) and it still did the same thing.

In a fit of desperation I tried to get SNEEK running (specifically uneek + DI) and I had no success with that at all. I didn't try to run sneek on the SD card, but I'm about to just give up on this... everything else works. I don't get it.

Edit: so I made some progress! I downloaded a bunch of old versions of DM from QJ.net with the intention of just trying them all and crossing my fingers. I started with 1.4b and it works! It's not ideal because it runs from the SD only, so I'll try more when I get back home later. I guess the newest DM is just super picky when it comes to SD card and USB drives. /shrug

I didn't think about the iso size...
All the iso I use are "clean" and are made with cleanrip. And their sizes are exactly the same : 1,459,978,240 bytes.
But I thought this was not a problem for DM. Maybe have a look at redump database to check your isos.

I still believe there is a problem with your installation. Use Syscheck and print the output here :) .

My setup:

Wii PAL 4.3 EU
Dios Mios 2.10
Configurable USB loader
HDD: Hitachi 250GB

All my games need the No-disc patch because my Disc Drive is broken. While some games I have to enable the NTSC-J patch.

Do you have multiple USB drives connected at the same time?
if you do, gamecube games should be on Port0, or on Port1 with no HDD in port0, as DM stop at the first mounted HDD and try to load from the first partition.

Though, I find it strange that it gives you that error when using DML+SD card. it's usually an issue with DM+USB.

I can't even get DIOS MIOS 2.10 INSTALLED on my Wii. I downloaded the file 3 times, each time from various mirrors/sites, and I always get a return error during WAD installation, regardless of the WAD manager I use. 2006 Launch Wii here, and I could use some help installing v2.10...

So I bought a SanDisk 16GB Ultra SD card and tried 2.10 again. It works perfectly! I guess the moral of the story is that yes, even SD cards can be incompatible with DIOS MIOS. I had a cheap-o PNY card in there that I got in a 2-pack for like $10.

TheChield, I thought the size mattered, because that's what all my games were after being run through DiscEx. But since I got 2.10 working, I ran the games through GameCube ISO Tool 1.0.1 which shrinks them and they work fine. It's worth the space savings!

JayRo, try downloading 1.4b from QJ.net. It was the only version I could get working on that old SD card. I think newer versions are very picky when it comes to what you're trying to run games from.

P.S. I use Multi-Mod Manager 13.4 and it always defaults to IOS 58 for me. I need to change it to a cIOS that I've installed (there is an option for it in the main menu of the app), such as 249 or 236, before it will install wads of any type. I'm not sure if it matters, but I also updated all of my cIOS to the newest d2x revision, which is 10 I think. If it has been a very long time since you installed HBC on your Wii, your files could be severely outdated.
