I ordered the CycloDS today- (Which as a bonus came included with a 1GB micro. Should arrive by Friday,

But I also ordered a 4GB Transcend Class6 MicroSD-With adaptor. Wont arrive till mid next week

I read this in the GBAtemp review

"Included with the CycloDS Evolution is a small USB micro SD card reader. The same one that is included with the R4 and M3 DS Simply. It's not a very good card reader, there have been countless problems experienced with these adapters - everything from overheating to corrupting SD cards. I really recommend you just pick up a real SD card reader"

Is the reader that bad?

I wont recieve my reader with the 4GB till mid next week, Can I use the included USB Reader without corrupting my 1GB?

Thanks!

I've been using the one that came with the CycloDS I bought about a month ago and I haven't had any problems with it. It works well, supports SDHC (and regular) SD's and is extremely fast.

I haven't experienced any heat (slightly warm at most) or corruption at all.

Thanks everyone!, Just wanted to be sure I could actually use the CycloDS when it arrived.
Sstew, sorry to take over your thread(if you think that) but i also have a question concerning me and Sstew, Well, i have an SDHC Card (I think its the same kind your getting, i should check) But for some reason, when i put it in my cycloDS usb reader thing, it instead of reading it, turns off, and i have to take it out of my computer and plug it back in. It also sometimes closes and disconnects when putting files onto my card (Usually large games like elite beat agents) So im wondering is this normal? and is it because my SD is a different format or what?

No problem, Doesn't bother me, your post will attract more people who can give us definite answers

That is the only card reader i have, and i would have to say it works great!

Sounds like a faulty card reader. Definitely is not normal =)

I have had mine over a year and it works fine on 15 different MicroSD and SDHC. I use it over the built in card readers on my computers. The old plastic ones however they didn,t do so well. Hope it helps.

I do not have a problem with mine. It's metal with 'CYCLODSEVOLUTION' printed on one side. It feels pretty solid, much better than the one that came with the R4 and AK2.

So the new card readers are metal not that cheap blue colored plastic in the review?

the old plastic readers came with the evo hardware version 1.0

Sa....What a shame, probably can't get a replacement on the reader. I got mine shortly after the Cyclo came out, and somehow managed to freeze/crash every computer I put it into...

Ah well, most MicroSD cards come with an SD adapter, and that's been fine for me...still, a shame.

Did you format your SD card before you put any files on it? I forgot to do it and what you said is what happened. If you did format, then I would contact CycloDS with your problem.

There is nothing too bad about the reader that comes with the CycloDS Evolution. However most recommend to have a secondary reader around just in case. Usually you can pick up a multi card reader from your local electronic store for ~ 20 AUD.

This way you can trouble shoot things much easier if you were to bump into any other troubles in the near future-
