ROM Hack Just a few questions concerning romhacking...

Hi,
i've been working on a Tales of the Tempest translation for the past few weeks with a few other people and i was just wondering if anyone could explain to me how to switch from 2-byte ASCII encoding to single byte, as well as how to work around pointers while inserting the script in order to get infinite space to put my text.

I doubt I can do something like that with that file format of tales of the tempest.Searching for the pointers is the best solution.
