Aaarrrgghhhhh!!! Why can't it just be simple as get this card it rocks? I'm new to this scene and trying to pick a card but research on all the cards just keep confusing me as to which to get...
Well, if you want a straight forward answer, here I am to give it to you.
Here are my three favourite flashcarts, each have their strengths, and their own price ranges.
1:
The Original $6 R4DS, with
Wood R4 Firmware.
The R4DS is a simple, cheap and effective solutions for the DS and DS Lite, it used to be an outdated flashcart, but the unofficial Wood R4 firmware gives the cart near-perfect DS rom compatibility.
This really is a simple, no fuss, no flash solution. Only $6, but you're also limited to 2gb memory, and no DSi support.
2:
The Acekard 2i, with
AKAIO firmware.
The Acekard 2i can be considered a step above the R4DS, it offers the improved AKAIO firmware, which also boasts great compatibility and some other neat functions like wifi-updating of firmware and cheats.
This flashcart offers SDHC support, and works on the DSi, but it also great on the DS Lite.
It needs to be reflashed to work on a DSi with 1.4 firmware, you can either
do this yourself on a DS Lite/DSi 1.3 or
ask an online shop to do it for you.
It's also a very affordable flashcart at only $15.
3:
The Supercard DSTwo with EOS Firmware
This is a premium flashcart costing $35, that has an integrated CPU, that is capable of GBA emulation on the DSi, without the use of a Slot-2 card. The 360mhz processor can do things no other flashcart can, including DivX video decoding and SNES emulation (these features aren't ready yet, but are coming).
For NDS games, it has a real-time menu, where you can check game guides, turn on cheats, use real-time saves, and slow-motion.
It also has great compatibility, SDHC support and DSi support. All existing DStwos already work on DSi 1.4.
So to boil it down...
Simple, cheap, effective:
$6 R4DS.
Standard, affordable, effective for DSi:
$15 Acekard 2i.
Premium, good value, and powerful:
$35 Supercard DStwo.
I hope that helps, these are the most popular choices around here lately, and Shoptemp is a good place to buy from. They have good prices, their sales benefit GBAtemp, and
their free shipping is pretty reliable too.
QUOTE(0ddity @ Aug 15 2010, 04:30 PM) I went with the DSTT, because about the only negatives people had to say about it was the GUI and the lack of compatibility with newer games, but with Pong and Retro keeping the Extinfo.dat, Savlib.dat and Infolib.dat files updated for new games with ysmenu, and GUI alternatives like dsision2, dscovered, and the r4 menu being available for it, for the price it can't be beat.
