I followed all of the required steps at https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/VCInjections_Compatiblity_List

I understand that some of this information is outdated however i tried my best to injected the Sonic 3 and Knuckles lock-on rom from Sega Genesis into the Sonic 3 VC .wad file, the file size of the rom was too large to be injected into the Vc wad file and therefore i am left with few options.

i do not know of any way to reduce the file size or trim the filesize of a genesis rom other than what is available in the auto injectuwad v3, i attempted this with sonic 3 complete and this only functioned with sonic 3d blast however with save functionality disabled i made sure to download the rom file twice to be sure of its file size i corrected the following issues

    • The rom that locks 'Sonic the Hedgehog 3' to 'Sonic & Knuckles' has an issue that the SRAM (save file) won't save correctly in the Wii Emulator. This is because there is no data in the rom header to tell the Wii Emulator that 'Sonic & Knuckles' uses SRAM.
    • The SRAM can easily be fixed (more details from this website: http://www.emulationzone.org/projects/s&k/thesis.htm) to work on the Wii Emulator by: this url no longer functions
    1. Open the rom in a hex editor (I use Hex Workshop: http://www.hexworkshop.com/).
    2. Go to offset (hex): 1B0
    3. From offset (hex) 1B0 - 1BC, replace the data with the following: 5241 F820 0020 0001 0020 03FF
    4. Save the changes to the rom.
    5. Fix the checksum (use this tool: http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/342/)

Save changes and your favorite emulator should now recognize that your S&K3; ROM does indeed use SRAM. As a challenge, see if you can discover for yourself that the Sonic 3 and S&K3; carts do not overwrite each other's SRAM data when used on an emulator.
