I see! I think I'll wait a bit longer. I'm still enjoying my other consoles and keep playing the games I own in the Switch.

its a 50/50 thats it patched or not. This is due to when nintendo was making patched switches, they were also making unpatched consoles. That leads to an overlap.So i would recommend just trying to mod it. If its in the orange there is no way to tell if its patched or not from serials. Just try it out with tegrarcmgui. If it gives you a 0x0000 then its patched. If it gives you a 0x7000 and something happens on screen then its not patched.

If your Switch is not patched then the firmware doesn't matter.

when my original switch's nand got corrupted, Nintendo sent me a refurbished one. it was also unpatched. this was about five months in to the patched units coming on to the market. I don't plan to exploit my system, but it's nice to have the option. my main switch is the animal crossing one, but I have two total.

Firmware is irrelevant when the console is not patched because the exploit used is hardware-based.
