I've been using an R4 for several years now, and with DealExtreme's free shipping to US, I'm thinking of finally upgrading. So, does anyone know if this is a real card or not?

Also, I don't have a DSi, though I might get one eventually down the road, so would there be any advantage to just getting an AK2 instead of an AK2i?

Ordered that same card and it works perfectly on a normal DSL and DSi so it never occured to me if it could be a fake or real but it's still working weeks after it got ordered.

It's something like a dollar more for the DSi version but the advantage is that it should cover the people who might choose to upgrade to the DSi console from their DSL.

Cool, thanks. I'll get that one.

Any recommendations for a SDHC flash card?
Kingston and Sandisk are probably the best brands, but don't buy any micro sd cards from DX. They're almost certainly fake.

Ooh, thanks for the advice. I already placed my order, but fortunately didn't add a microSD. I'll just get one from NewEgg or Tiger Direct.

I've bought 3 cards from that site for friends, and all have been clones. The constructions of the Acekard2s have been much different than the legitimate one I received from realhotstuff

Well, they've got a page about distinguishing the real from the fake here, unfortunately you have to crack it open to tell. I've also read that AKAIO doesn't work on fakes.

There are fakes, and akaio 1.5 will not work with fakes, so thats an easy way to tell if you got ripped off.

I have had the same experience as ConJ. Dealextreme is a great place to order Acekards if you can stand to wait.
You'll almost certainly get a better deal from the micro sd cards by buying locally if in the US.

Staples, Best Buy et al have sales on them all the time. I'm currently running with Adata and PNY micro sd cards and neither card has yet to act up. So long as you purchase from a well known memory manufacturer the micro sd card should work fine. You may want to invest in a Class 6 card if you intend to transfer a lot of files as it will speed up transfers. From what I've been able to gather, the class/speed of the micro sd no longer has any bearing on the performance of games on the DS.

I also want to get the one from Deal Extreme, but is it true that it doesn't include an adapter? Also, will my 4GB Lexar microSDHC work with it?

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
