My dad is visiting China right now and he purchased me a DSTwo. But the packaging didn't look right to me so I went for a closer look.

This is a pic that I took off of another site and the one he purchased is exactly like this. Is it a legit card?

Is it just an early version? Is the quality the same? The review on GBAtemp uses the snazzier looking one with the swirls and it was released earlier than the review I posted above.

The DSTwo box has changed a couple of times, and that's the current box.
I've got one just like that, and one without a "2" visible on the box.

I'm not aware of any illegitimate DStwos in circulation anyway, I don't think it's happened yet.

It looks exactly as mine did. I'm pretty sure it's legit. The best way to know for sure is to try it out, I guess.

Well here's mine:

and I'm pretty sure it's legit.

To me it seems like an earlier model as it does not mention the SNES emulator.
EDIT: Sorry it looks like utter crap, I took it with my DSiXL.

Neato. Thanks for the answers.

I don't have the card yet so I can't test it.

Are you sure that it's the current box? I mean, it sorta looks worse compared to the other designs. Not that it's terrible.

Not necessarily true.
There's a fake EON-chipped Acekard 2o out there that reports HWID44, has a yellow PCB, and can even run AKAIO 1.85a.
The give-away is that the anti-anti-piracy won't work on these fakes.

For the sake of this argument, AKAIO is the official firmware, it's not like anyone uses AKMENU.

But that's only because a cracked AKAIO is out there and can be modified.
I doubt without any crack/source code it would be that easy to ripoff the Supercard Two. Now I am not saying it's impossible, but the moment I am saying it's unlikely.

My dad showed me the innards of the box over the webcam and it comes in the same gray felt case thing along with the same SD card reader.

It also came with a microsd that I'll assume that the dealer included. It had a ton of chinese games loaded onto it, NO$GBA, an ebook reader homebrew app, and moonshell.

The quality absolutely sucked over the webcam though, so I wasn't able to get a good look at the card itself.

I don't think so. Iunno why it's on there. It was jpeg raeped and I basically just skimmed over the whole screenshot. You could be right though.

Quick question. Why are there so many people looking at this topic right now?

Not to mention the CPU. The cost of adding a 400MHz MIPS CPU would probably make clones/knockoffs not be worth it.

But not impossible. There are some copy cats like Ex4i, so some go the extra mile, but I doubt a clone would come close to the power of the Supercard Two

Ah. I'll change the title.
EDIT:Nvm.
I have a legit DSTT and R4. It kinda surprises me.

The box just seemed unfamiliar and unprofessional to me.

Really? I thought it was one of the most professional-looking ones out there

I got the same box, and AFAIK that was originally the Chinese box, while the rest of the world got the other one (or vice versa) until they made this box worldwide.

Just to add the obligatory FYI here, the box is NOT what is going to determine if the cart you have is fake or not. The only thing that will, is the cart itself.

I think that industrial/steel font they use for the lettering for DSTWO is kinda cheap looking personally.

Either way, as was mentioned, the only way to know if you get a fake DSTwo is to actually use it and see if it has issues doing things it should normally be able to do. Of course, these problems may not arise at first if it was a good clone, but I think any company that just tries to copy the DSTwo or CycloDSi is going to do horribly without just designing their own CPU using cart. With that said, I'm pretty positive there are no DSTwo clones out there yet, or if there ever will be that aren't complete, nonworking knock offs.

Yeah, yeah. Ino, but the box seems like something I could slap together in paint in just 5 minutes.
