    The Homebrew Channel
    Gecko OS 1.7b

I have all those as channels. There is also some homebrew to transfer saves from your SD Card to a GC memory card. It works good if you want to try some GC saves from the net. It can only transfer 1 save at a time though. Other than that, there isn't much I have tried but those are very handy to have.

I wouldn't call Gecko OS "essential" since it's only needed if you play imports... and most people don't.

It's essential for me to try cheats. It automatically reads the cheats from the memory card and applies them. That's basically what I use it for. I guess it can also boot PAL games and plays them at 60hz? I never tried a Pal game but I think it has options for that.
