Is there a safe AR code for getting the Bass chip in Mega Man Battle Network 1?

I tried some code I found on the internet that instantly put the chip in your folder, but it also made the characters refuse to save the game and then the file promptly got corrupted and deleted itself.

I don't want to cheat, I just want to have all the chips.

The Bass chip is in the game but is impossible to access through normal means.
