Since the Wii U is supposedly coming out next year, I wanted to hear what people thought about this. The Gamecube is approaching it's ten year anniversary and is now two generations old. Despite the fact that the systems does have fairly good graphics, it's still packing in the years. So what do you think?

Edit: Removed repetitiveness

Retro is a dumb term in general. I just prefer "outdated".

If a game is like 20 years old but had good enough mechanics and gameplay to hold up in today's world then it really hasn't aged in terms of gameplay. A lot of Gamecube titles still hold up, same with the PS2 and Xbox.

The gamecube architecture has too many hardware improvements, yet too new games to be called retro, at least to me.

However, the hardware design is still impressive

For me retro means "of a different time" so even new games can still be retro if they have that old timey feel.

To be honest a lot of games released today could easily be played on a Gamecube just minus some graphical changes *cough* CoD *cough*.

Retro is more a style then it is an age classification.

So the gamecube will be retro when we outgrow our current gaming conventions...i'd say, around when virtual reality comes out.

I view the N64 and back as classic, but I define retro by graphics, music, etc. Like Schlupi said, Mega Man 9/10 are modern retro games, if that makes sense...
It makes perfect sense. You're basically saying that, similar to what Hells said, it's more of a style than an age thing.
