Is it worth waiting for Switch 2 piracy?

I don't think it's worth it unless you're poor and just can't afford to purchase software. It will probably take a few years for Switch 2 hacks to become a reality and it's not worth the wait if there's a game you want to play today. You're better off playing non-exclusive games on another platform. I'm keeping my 19.0 Switch 2 locked way for overclocking because as we've seen with Donkey Kong Jamboree, games already have performance issues.

I am waiting for CFW (and presumably piracy, if switching between online-OFW to download my purchases and offline-CFW to play them is as annoying as it is on NS1). For me, there hasn't yet been a 'killer app' that would justify getting an NS2 just for that game. Until I can carry over my existing game mods and utilities (e.g. adjustable overclocking), it won't be a straight upgrade over the NS1.

You will be waiting for years. Nintendo has secured (and future-proofed) so many aspects of the newer iterations of HorizonOS that it's going to take quite a lot of effort to successfully hack.

Hell, they even went out of their way to use a non-standard asymmetric cryptography algorithm just to secure it against quantum computing in the future.

At this rate, it might be worth buying a Switch 2 just to avoid the inevitable price hike.

As far as piracy, no I don't think it's worth it. Just buy the couple games that are actually worth getting (DKB and MP4) and enjoy them.

Which would require hacking the system to be able to get the keys needed to decrypt the games to make them playable in the first place.

That's beside the point in the context of the conversation. If a person is going to buy a Switch 2 just to pack away and wait for it to be hacked, they may as well just save their money and wait for a Switch 2 emulator.

I'm just putting things into perspective. An emulator can't truly begin with running games until we have the keys to decrypt them. To get the keys requires hacking. As it is, HorizonOS is currently impenetrable from the outside, and there is currently no hardware flaw to get inside. It could be years, even passed the release of the Switch 2 successor (feels weird to start saying that now) before anything meaningful happens. TC believes it is not worth it to wait that long if there's something you want to play now, and I would agree on that.

Folks hoping for a situation like with Switch 1 should just get their expectations in check. That got blown open because of a flaw in the bootROM that could not be patched out. That was fixed within a year with newer systems, but the damage was already done on the older systems. The hackers got in, able to then work outward to break the wall from the inside, which then affected all systems with knowing where the breach was for hard-mods.

I'm not sure why you're arguing a case for something I agree with you on. My last comment was literally putting things into perspective.

Which may not happen for like 10 years.
Anyone even thinking of making an switch 2 emulator especially when its still an active console is just asking to be sued into oblivion or worse get video game console emulators outlawed in general. Which could happen given the state of US politics and Nintendo really wanted to play dirty.

You know a Switch 2 emulator cannot happen until AFTER the Switch 2 is hacked, right? It may be 20 or 30 years before that happens. You people not updating your Switch 2s or holding off waiting for an emulator are living in a dreamworld. This isn't the Switch 1, which was hacked early on (and that is the ONLY reason the emulation, CFW and piracy scene(s) happened on Switch 1).

Plus, it's not like one will appear the next day either. It would probably be years of research and development before it can even load a basic game.
Besides the need for the system to be hacked, I'd imagine that Switch 1 got some ease in getting emulated because there were other products that made use of the Tegra X1 SoC, including the Nvidia Shield TV, as well as the Jetson TX1 that had documentation to go along with it. The T239 in the Switch 2 is not used anywhere else, and is custom to Nintendo's needs.

All i want is to unlock the device and use it for emulators and homebrew. Till MP4 or the next Zelda comes out (Which i'm happy to buy) I see no reason pirate.

switch 2 might be similar enough to switch 1 to be able to adapt what we have from switch 1 emulators to get a switch 2 emulator going, but even now switch 1 emulators arent perfect. some things work way better in emulator, but console always just runs everything as intended

I know Nintendo Switch 2 emulator will come out little far away in few years.

But bad news due to tariffs cost on all computers and video game systems right now. Tariffs are hurt our and people money budgets. Not easy for us and people. Very disappoint and put stress to us and people due to high cost / price on all hardware. It make us very upset because of price skyrocket shoot up far.

Best to wait until tariffs go away or gone then can buy hardware when become afford again in near future.
