Hacking Is it worth upgrading my card?

Well, here's some good news. There's this thing called the Sakura firmware for the M3 Real, and it looks fantastic. But currently, it's under construction, and there's a lot of work to be done. But in the Current state, it's terrible.

Yeah, I've been keeping an eye on that. Hope it comes out soon.
Just out of curiosity, what exactly is so terrible about the Real? Just the UI? The extra features (slow-mo, cheats, etc., which I don't see myself using anyway)?

Judging from what other people have said, the game compatibility is just fine, and I plan to use homebrew apps instead of the built in things anyway. The main reason I got it is that it's supposed to have really good GBA compatibility via the GBA Expansion.

Even M3 real will get M3 Sakura it will still take long time to finish it and do u know how slow M3 real is!!!
And it's kinda expensive... (than DSTT,AK2,EDGE,SCDS1 which are better than M3 real)
I really recommend DSTT because it has Ys menu!
Ys menu = similar to R4 menu which is very good
Anyway M3 real will get M3 Sakura long later but at that time i bet DSTT or other carts (AK2,EDGE,SCDS1) will get better firmware too and upgrade it.
So my point is
DSTT,Ak2,EDGE,SCDS1 > M3 real ds
Also my other point is that M3 real ds sucks and DSTT rules!!!

I wouldn't go as far as that, flash carts RARELY get a complete firmware make over, so don't expect one coming out for the R4, etc. The M3DS Real's GBA support IS great, and the main problem is that the M3DS Real's firmware is a bit slow and clunky.

By clunky do you mean laggy? Like in-menu laggy?

That's honestly the only real complaint about the M3 Real. It is a bit slow but it's not as unbearable as everyone makes it out to be. That and it only displays 4 games at a time in the list. However, those are going to be things of the past once Sakura comes out. Also keep in mind that even though it's laggy, the menu is still faster than digging through your games, powering off, switching carts, and powering on. I mean, isn't that the main reason we got them in the first place? To keep all our games in one place with little to no cart swapping.

The main reason I chose the M3 Real over everything else is the GBA compatibility/accessibility. I don't have to load a special homebrew first or prepatch my GBA games to get them to work. Just put the clean roms into the GBA folder of the uSD card and select the GBA button on the main menu. That's another part of the M3 Real I love. Only one menu is needed to access everything. No need to reboot into GBA mode to play GBA games. Plus, with the GBA expansion you can boot older homebrew that only worked on slot-2 cards by choosing slot-2 when you load a homebrew. Btw, if you haven't done the research on it, the GBA expansion is essentially a slot-2 M3 w/o firmware chip or sd slot.

@TC: Speaking of slot-2 M3, bonus feature of the M3 Real vs the other cards, you can keep your old M3 and use that as the GBA expansion, bringing the price down to the $40s. Plus, there are programs that allow you to copy from slot-1 to slot-2 and vice versa, keeping the slot-2 cards useful and relevant. That's why part of the deal of giving my g/f a M3 Real Perfect Bundle and my old DS Lite was that she had to give me back the old slot-2 M3 she used on her phat.

I know I'm probably in the minority here because everyone likes to pick on the M3, but once Sakura is released the M3 will blossom and regain favor amongst the people. I don't consider myself a M3 fanboy nor even a loyalist. My first card was an M3 but my flashcard of preference is an integrated slot-1/2 solution, hence why I bought an EZ-Flash V & 3-in-1 when it first came out. If Team Cyclops actually gave a damn about their slot-2 device and integrated it into the Evo, then I would've been all over that like a hobo on a ham sandwich. Right now I'm actually researching the SuperCard DS One as a replacement for my EZV when I sell it. It definitely looks like a powerful card to play around with, especially since it can be used with 3 different OSes.

I hope that my post along with everyone else's has shed some light on the varying flashcards available. Your decision will be wise and full of win...as long as it's not a DS-X...

M3 Real's not bad at all. It's not too slow. Quite bearable, actually.
Works fine for me, and lookin forward to the much better M3 Sakura.

I have it right here and it doesnt fell cheap quality at all, very sturdy

I know its not the best (CycloDS, SCDS1 are the best from what Ive seen) but still doesnt deserve that...

I second that, actually, this is the first time that complete firmware makeover is ever done..So, no hyun, you would loose your bet, other carts won't get a firmware upgrade in the way M3 Real is getting..

Everyone, stop putting M3 down, if you like, praise other carts, but not by shitting on Real, it's NOT SO BAD CART..As PharaohsVizier said, it has some features working the best on the scene (GBA support), and on the other side, it has it's downsides (firmware problems), but it does what it is supposed to do..If there are people that are completely satisfied with their Reals (me for example, and I'm not the only one), that means the cart is not the shit, and it's not like ojsinnerz represents it..
I'm not a fanboy, I never said OMG M3 REALS THE BEST CART, AND EVERY OTHER SUX IN COMPARISON!!!!!!!!.....and I admit it has it's flaws, but it's a good cart...

As Joe88 mentioned, just look at review..
If somebody doesn't like it, don't use it..But don't spread false indications..

I'll never understand why EVERYONE seemed to love the R4DS sooo much. Either way, they dont make them anymore so either get an R4 clone such as the new "N5" or else hold out a little longer and buy the Cyclo. If you dont like it, sell it to me

R4 used to be the cheapest, with the best support, and compatibility. Nowadays, it's not worth getting. It's outdated, and can't take sdhc cards. Besides, there are better, and cheaper carts, like DSTT, EDGE, ItouchDS (Not out yet), and acekard 2.

Also, DO NOT GET A N5. It blows the DS's fuse, so the DS will break instantly. There have been lots of reports of blown fuses, and broken DS's, and it's highly recommened that you shouldn't get it. Also, Get a Cyclo!
