Hacking Is in-game saving possible with a firmware update?

I've heard recently that the Supercard is now supporting in game saving:

Is it possible that the R4 could add this feature as well in a later firmware update or does the Supercard have specific hardware that allows this?

The R4 can do most likely do it. Question is whether it will be implemented (likely), and how well it will work.
