my son found ipod touch in the dessert it has passcode i have tried holding home and pluging in to cp held both power and home i get no where my cp and itunes wont show ipod. anyone have idea. thanks

First you should find out what generation it is if you can (1g, 2g, 3g, 4g?) and what firmware it is running, you can do this by having it turned on normally (where the lockscreen, etc is) and then plugging it in to iTunes where it will show these details.

Next you should download the appropriate firmware (For the correct generation, and the correct firmware version) for the iPod Touch from: http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/ .

After that you should put the iPod Touch into DFU mode (instructions: http://ipitg.net/how-to-enter-dfu-mode/), then when the iPod Touch has shown up in iTunes again, shift + click (if on Windows) or option + click (if on OS X) on the 'Restore' button, then navigate to the firmware downloaded previously and select that to restore.

my ipod has the usb sign connecting to the itunes sign on screen and wont do anything else.
can anyone help
