interesting idea but I don't know what use this has when you can just use a computer that's just a short distance from the iphone. using a desktop 24/7 is better.

Agreed, Mac is fail. And what the hellll??? It's been barely an year since the iPhone 4 released, and iPhone 5 rumours are popping around?? Gah, I might as well wait for the iPhone 519 that has a built-in toilet and convertible car that pops out by pressing the "Release My Car" button. And of course, one that will talk.

That made me LMAO!!! but no seriously...Apple stop making all this damn iphone so close together....money hoarders!!!

You must be new to the Apple scene...
Whatever it is, my claim still stands so meh

go 5 years ahead and what you have? An iPhone 8 or maybe 9

Apple is just milking it. Lol.
It's just another Final Fantasy series (of course the iPhone is a smartphone but still) being milked to 10+ versions except this time, by Apple.
Apple release a new revision of their iPods and iPhones every year. Its how they make money from the idiots who have to have each one of their products which have some serious planned obsolescence

Which is why I got my 1st iphone a year ago and its a 1st gen and even though it gets no more updates I'm still not 100% sure about upgrading. My 1st gen can still do everything that it needs to do without all the extra the 3G, 3GS, and 4 provide.

Great!

Too bad I won't own an iPhone 5 and don't plan on purchasing a Mac. It would be cool if Microsoft did something like this but with Windows Phone 7 and Windows 7.

As someone who still has a 2G, a good percent of the software available in the AppStore is nigh unusable on the original chipset, and a far greater percent when it comes to games (at least 50%). In general its pretty sluggish on 3.x.

Protip: technology advances over time.

Each iteration of the iPhone has brought performance increases which weren't possible during the timeline of the previous. Both the 3GS and 4 introduced entirely new chipsets which significantly increased performance.

but jamstruth is right. Apple should sell 5 year old technology to new customers to protect the investments of older customers because that's the way apple haters that would never buy an apple product in the first place feel that a TECHNOLOGY company should operate.

True but even though I cannot run some apps and it pisses me off, I bought my iphone only because I like the fact it uses touch controls (which I think is cool), has a phone, and as an EXTRA it makes my life pretty convient. Until my iphone is incapable of doing the 1st two I can't say I'll ever update. I could care less if I can never run newer apps...In fact the ONLY reason I have an iphone is because I wanted a Zune HD (for the touch control), but I saw no point in having four mp3 players (my cell at the time, my DSi, a Zune HD, and my psp)....So I decided to get a iphone to save space on my DSi SD card and PSP memory stick and save on money (as I sold my old phone)...If it wasn't for that I would have a Zune HD which I personally like better and if Zune ever made a phone Im getting it.

iPhone 5: 2011
iPhone 6: 2012
iPhone 7: 2013
iPhone 8: 2014
iPhone 9: 2015
iPhone 10: 2016
iPhone 11; 2017
iPhone 12: 2018

etc, etc, etc...

Sounds like fun. I can't wait for more dodgy security holes to scare my Apple bumming friends with. Especially seeing as no one owns a Mac and no one will turn this off. But how about some useful updates. Like a fucking SD card slot (or any other common removable media support), the lack of which would doom any other smartphone, mp3 player, or oversized smartphone. Or proper multitasking. Or if they will only allow me to install apps they like get rid of and keep out ALL the spy/malware on the App Store. Or better yet let me choose to install apps they don't like through my PC, even with overly annoying "are you sure" dialogues. Or some customisability on a almighty, this is personal, iDevice.

On a personal note, this sounds a stupidly fucking dangerous idea. A live usb stick would be much more personal and could be much more secure.

Apple will be among the first to try and make cloud computing marketable... to the point where I belive they'll be willing to almost force it on the people silly enough to buy their products. That said, I don't think that's going to happen quite so soon.

I also heard it can remotely set off volcanoes and locate Summa Binlardin.

It will be able to set off volcanoes but will then turn off automatically because of the heat.

Also, as to the news article, the tech is pretty useless. Where else do you see Macs other than A) being used by someone else at a coffee shop or B) on sale at a store?
If someone does not know what an iPod looks like, they have been living in the dark
