So, I have been contemplating about getting a nice, simple computer that I can use for word, spreadsheet, and presentations for the upcoming school year. I wondered if maybe I could get an iPad for that stuff...

I really have needed a new iPod for a while now... Maybe you guys could share some advice?

    iPads are theft targets.

    I'd recommend a plain-looking netbook instead.
You know, they actually have a keyboard, too. [IMG]

Tablet's are geared more towards consuming content rather than creating. I don't see the point if you need to write a paper or something.

iPad is not a computer. For instance, how are you going to print things?

You need something to type papers and research at home, that's it. A computer in the classroom will not help you to learn; if anything it will cause your grades to suffer.

I used one for school this year. I was able to write quite a few papers on it; to print stuff I ran a portable copy of iTunes that I kept on the school network drive to import documents and print them.

Personally, I'd go for a Portable Netbook of some sort. Like someone sad before, Ipad s just an enlargement of the Iphone/Ipod touch with better processing capabilities.

Get a decent little Netbook. Half the price, twice the speed, twice the functions, TWICE THE FUN!!!

Oh no, I'm not taking it to school or anything. I need a separate computer from the only other one in the house. Basic word processing and spreadsheets are what I need.

Oh I thought you meant you wouldn't have access to a PC at all. Honestly I'd get the Asus 1201N. It has a graphics card and it's a 12" netbook.

if a netbook's not going to be good enough, why are you even considering an ipad?

I have a NetBook I use for school, and I love it. [IMG]

Like everyone else are saying, iPad is just a iPhone/iPod Touch with bigger screens.

Just throwing out there that I don't think the iPad would be a very good replacement for you needing a new iPod. It's massive and isn't even as close to as portable as just about any other MP3 player.

Everyone keeps mentioning that an iPad is just an oversized iPhone/iPod touch. I don't see the problem with that; those things are more than capable of replacing the need for a computer with all the software they're able to use. If you want an iPad, go for one, I hear their nice, and if you don't like netbooks, then that gives you even more reason.
