Hello

I installed bootstrap9 following the guide at 3ds.guide recently. All very straightforward and now we can rip our cartridges and install on the home screen, which saves a lot of hassle. I'd now like to install a few CIAs that I've downloaded. I saw a torrent of massive archive of 3DS games entitled "Collection of 250 decrypted 3DS ROMs for Citra Emulator" but trying to install any of these gives an error. The ROMs are called named list this: "0189 - Rayman Origins (Europe) (En,Fr,De,Es,It,Nl) Decrypted.3ds" with a decrypted in the file name. I assumed that being decrypted would only be a good thing but it seems not.

Has anyone else seen this archive and managed to install any of the ROMs in it?

Thank you!

I'm a noob and I have seen reference to Freeshop. I installed it via a QR code and ran it and all I see is a message saying I haven't got any tickets or something similar. Is there a guide (like the fabulous 3ds.guide one) that would help a noob get up to speed on the main Freeshop concepts. I had a Google but seemed to go round in cycles, I suspect as a lot of the howtos referred to the era before bootstrap9 and talked about now outdated *hax.

What do you mean?
You can't install a .3ds, you must first convert it to .cia (using Godmode9 on-console or 3dsconv on-computer are the most modern ways)

Decrypted source files works just fine (in fact the game will be decrypted first by those tools if it's not already, since one byte must be edited during the conversion) so I would assume they're bad conversions

Find and open the titlekeys website on a PC/phone, click the QR symbol next to the "download enctitlekeys" link, scan that QR in freeshop>gear symbol on toolbar>update, restart freeshop

BTW make sure you're using freeshop 3.x by Arc13, as the 2.x series by TheCruel is discontinued due to legal trouble of him

I was converting the .3ds file to a .cia via godmode9. This was where the error was. Sorry, I should have been clearer in my post. Perhaps all the files in the 250 ROM archive are duff but I saw nothing in the comments. Anyway, I think I'll try to work out the Freeshop stuff, which makes a bit more sense now.

I am on the Arc13 Freeshop.

Thank you everyone!

It could have become corrupted during the download/unzipping/tranfer.... Or it's just a bad file itself. The only way to know for sure it to try them again. You can try FreeShop but I guarantee half the games that are in that torrent aren't going to be on there since it relies on users like you and me to buy games and upload the keys to that title site. I still convert my CIAs the old fashioned way with the 3DS to CIA conversion tool on the PC. I've never tried using Godmode9 to convert them. I'm curious now so I'm gonna download that pack and see what's up with Rayman Origins Lol.

Please please PLEASE give me the link in private message. :>

I assume that you have DL'ed the file and it's also corrupt for you, in which case, it's likely that all the other files in that ROM pack are screwed too.

With the help of the good folks at gbatemp I have finally worked out how Freeshop work. You were quite right, it is a lot easier. Time for a bigger SD card...

Last edited by daddoh,
Probably, definitely not going to test all of them when there are easier options and working/tested downloads everywhere in the correct format already haha.

Can anyone tell me where the game date from Freeshop is stored? And, if I delete a Freeshop game via the 3DS settings, is there any clean up needed to free space on the SD card?

Thanks

Game data? In your SysNand. If you delete it from the 3DS settings, you don't have to do anything in plus.

No (although that leaves a ticket still installed in internal storage, which is harmless - unless you want to buy the original digitally - and can be removed with TikSweep or FBI 2)

The freeshop cache and settings are stored in /3ds/data/freeshop (or something similiar) on your SD, software is installed directly to Nintendo 3DS by the operating system not much differently than if you downloaded it through the official eShop, you don't get to keep a backup cia (but you can create one with Godmode9)

I meant the downloaded ROM data - the large file, iow.

When you say "software is installed directly to Nintendo 3DS", where is it installed? Is it on the SD card? If not, how much space do I have for Freeshop games?
