Homebrew installing CIA's

if I install a .cia file that requires an update .cia file, what will happen?

Do I need to install the update file as well? For ex. Mario Kart 7 has a .cia file, but it also comes with an update file that is also .cia. Do I need to install the update .cia for Mario Kart 7?

If you try to start the game without the update you will get a message saying an update is available do you want to download it or press Y to continue without the update.

Without the latest update any online game will not work

lright so I guess it's kind of optional since either way I'll have to install the update? Whether via FBI or when notified to when I start up the game?

Yep and there is absolutely zero reason not to just update your games anyway.
