I'm lost on this all the instructions I'm finding are confusing. I can "install" games no problem but I have a lot of backup games that I don't want to have to copy to the SD card everytime I want to play them... I want to put them on the external drive and be done.

Sorry that's how it works. Copy to SD and install to USB from the SD
All the games I have are "backups" they are not installable. I had an installable version of Zelda which installed great and I play it, however there other games have to be loaded thru loadiine and played off the card... I want to install them to the external drive like I did Zelda.

You can convert loadiine games to WUP Install-able games. Just search the forums

The easiest solution would be to re-download your games with an app like Wii U USB helper, but if you insist on using your Loadiine rips, here you go.

This is a good tutorial on how to achieve this:

Depending how the game was ripped to Loadiine format, there might be problems with the cos.xml file missing vital elements, if the game or its update can't be found on eShop. Check this url if you have problems:

Some people have limited bandwidth and data caps. I can see a scenario where one might want to batch confer a bunch overnight or something
