I have 2 Nintendo Switches.

The 1st switch is my main one and is currently on firmware 5.1.0.

The 2nd switch is brand new, has never been used, and is on firmware 4.1.0.

I use the 1st switch as intended by Nintendo with a Nintendo account associated to it.

I intend to use the 2nd switch for homebrew, emulators, and backups via SX Pro (currently pre-ordered) without a Nintendo account associated to it (unless required in order to obtain game updates.)

I have a 256GB micro sdxc card for use in the 2nd switch.

I need to decide if I should format it to format to FAT32 or exFAT.

Safest / most practical methods and least chance for a ban/brick is ideal.

I have been searching and reading posts over the course of a few days so I can get closer to making an informed decision and this is what I have learned:

- exFAT supports files over 4 GB
- speed of using exFAT is faster vs using FAT32
- FAT32 requires splitting of files greater than 4GB as 4GB is the limit
- games requiring a system firmware higher than 4.1.0 cannot be played unless a system update to the required firmware version is performed
- in order to easily and safely install the exFAT driver, a system update must be performed, thus installing the current system firmware of 5.1.0 as of the time of this writing
- alternately, I can install the exFAT driver using the tutorials on this forum, however, it may be prone to detection/ban as it modifies the sysnand
- the plus side of manually updating the exFAT driver is that I get to keep system firmware version 4.1.0 installed
- staying on 4.1.0 would allow me to warmboot in the distant future (is this even a big deal if my switch is rarely powered off?) What are the side effects of not having warmboot?

Based on the information provided and current solutions, would you manually update the drivers to support exFAT, would you stay on 4.1.0 and use FAT32, or would you perform a system update to easily obtain exFAT support while also obtaining the latest firmware and support for the latest games requiring a higher firmware (while losing the potential option to warmboot?)

Feel free to reply to any portion of this message with additional information that may help myself and others come to an informed decision.

keep your second switch offline. keep it with fat32 unless you plan on installing exfat manually. on or below 4.1.0 will get you un-tethered warmboot cfw in the next 6 months or so. anything above 4.1.0 your stuck using jigs for a long time.
 
My Switch came with 4.1.0 without exfat support. I just installed the exfat support update onto it manually, so now, I can use my 128gb microsd card formatted to exfat. It was a fairly simple process. If you can follow simple instructions, it is very safe to do.

If you are going to be using TX's modchip offline, I don't think you would be getting the most out of the ability to play backups. Eventually, there may come games you are interested in that require higher firmware and we currently have no way of updating the Switch to specific firmwares nor do we have a spoofer in the works. I think the best course of action would be to use the modchip on your first Switch as TX seems to be somewhat fairly confident users won't get immediately banned for using their CFW or playing backups. Heck, they recommend updating to the latest firmware just to do things like grab game updates or play DLC. We just might discover a way to play backups safely online.
 
Warmboot will stil not enable you to load payloads (SX) on boot right, or will there be a way to load it from sd? If not, i might as well update to 5.1.

actually no matter how much you update you can still use cfw other than tx, because it allows you to load different payloads using the dongle, so if you want to use hekate or atmosphere, you can use that and still update.

tx pro works on firmware 5.1.0 baby, i just saw their video proof and i updated one of my babies to 5.1.0 just 5 minutes ago.also i ordered (2) 2tb micro sd.

You can only stay offline using TX's modchip until there's a game that requires updating, there is DLC you wish to purchase, or you want to download something from the eShop. TX has not offered any workarounds for these so you will be limiting yourself, at least at launch, using TX offline solely.

no offense,it doesnt bother me baby cause i dont play online and maybe in the future tx get more funcionality.
 
I don't understand what the real question is... If you have two switches one updated and one on 4.1.0, stay that way. If you feel the need for exFAT add it. As it stands exFAT isn't even a necessity. Potentially it'll make loading backups more convenient as they won't need to be trimmed (my understanding).
I see no logical reason to update when you have two...

Then I see no reason for you to have mentioned that their CFW works offline on 5.1 unless you were just referring to the fact that it runs on 5.1, which is good, but the offline point is at the very least moot and at worst a hindrance for other users since TX is not offering them any safety net.

sir listen,am not play online neither ways safe or not,for me its ok and i will use on my switch 5.1.0, i do have another switch on 2.3.0 for atmosphere is scires at leats release it this year.

I'm not saying you personally need online to use TX. I'm saying their lack of workarounds may present issues for users other than yourself. I'm not asking you to care about said users but it appears to be at the very least an oversight by Team Xecuter that deserves a solution for their sake.

Bonus points: I got you to respond without the word "baby"
