purpose
a) So your switch can go online without worrying about a ban or using random dogdy DNS servers that are also likely to get you banned.

b) so malicious homebrew applications cannot steal your personal certificate.

This application backs up your prodinfo to the SD root, you should keep this backup in a more secure location, and not leave it on the SD card where malicious applications can read it.

edit: atmosphere blocks writes to CAL0, so you must use ReiNX or SX OS to install this. Once installed, you can switch back to atmosphere.

i used incognito on my sysnand and then accidentally overwrote the backup . now when i restore it restores to the xaw0000000000000 serial id for the console. i don't have emummc. will i be able to update the OS in the future?

turns out i had two prduct info.bin files, one of them was prodinfo_sys.bin.0 - this one, after i deleted the .0 part turned out to be the initial backup file and i restored to the original thing. whew!

This is the reason that literally EVERY guide that exists dictates that, without exception, you should backup your NAND and keys (BIS, TSEC, etc) and store copies in multiple locations prior to doing anything else. Hell, even the Incognito instructions tell you to make a NAND backup and to copy your prodinfo file to somewhere safe. I mean, it would be one thing if you lost your NAND backup due to a hard drive dying or something (even though you should have a copy on another drive or cloud storage or something) but if you never even made one in the first place, that is just utterly reckless... I'm glad you resolved your issue but surely this was a wake-up call for you, right? Surely you immediately restored your prodinfo and went and performed a full NAND backup after this little scare, no?

he doesn't have a Serial Number in the settings due to using Incognito and not doing a Backup or a NAND backup beforehand..
Is there any way to resolve this issue?
He doesn't have a prodinfo on his SD or any type of backup saved..

If this person didn't back up the prodinfo.bin or have a nand backup, then it's over. Regardless, using incognito doesn't have an effect on the way different homebrew operates (there's no real reason for user level homebrew to be accessing CAL0) Whatever the issue may be, just tell them to start fresh; delete homebrew files and get fresh downloads of them.

i've replaced all his homebrew files for him and even reformatted his micro sd
checked his serial number and its still not there, i'll give it another go

The serial number is not stored on the sd and nothing you'll do to the sd will restore it. Johny was giving you this advice to see if it would solve the Homebrew issues themselves.

No. You run incognito once and that's it.

No you don't need to, updating your emuMMC won't restore your prodinfo, you'll still be incognito after the update.
The only case where you would need to reuse incognito is if you restore your emuMMC partition from a sysNAND without prodinfo erased or from a backup without prodinfo erased.

check the SD card for a prodinfo backup. atmosphere stores one, and so does incognito.

Even if you dont have one, I would not say that the seller screwed over your friend, assume any hacked switch is banned or will be banned. Incognito is only useful if you have a nand backup to restore you, you dont seem to have that so you are SOL anyway.

Hi, I have the latest version of atmosphere 0.12 and switch FW 10.0.02. Does this incognito work with atmosphere now? or would I have to install reinx etc as I watched a video with the guy only using atmosphere
