By the way, just out curiosity, how do you want the japanese names? Last name first, right?
It's how you did it on the first names but just to be sure, since, for example, in that wiki they have the first name first (except for Endou Mamoru).

Oh, no, i think that i say the wrong, better for us is First Name and Last Name.
So, is really Mamoru (1st) Endou (Last)?
 
Well, having in mind his grandpa is Endou Daisuke and his grandson is Endou Kanon, I'm pretty sure Endou is the last name! XD

They have first name last name order, except for Mamoru Endou, don't ask me why.
At least the most obvious one are in the correct order for what I can tell.

Yes, Kidou, Kabeyama, Gouenji, Kazemaru and so on, they are all last names.

EDIT: If you're not sure, open each char page in the wiki and copy their kana name into this site: http://nihongo.j-talk.com/kanji/
The first name that appears in the romaji version is the last name.
 
I noticed something interesting..
There are characters that are in Inazuma Eleven 2, for example: Victoria "Tori" Vanguard (Touko Zaizen).
I don't know if the first Inazuma have her, but is still interesting.
 
What? Character names that only appear in the second game in the game files of the first?
 
This sounds pretty good. My Copy will be coming in shortly and I was sad to see that the names were changed. I don't mind the voices to much but It'd be cool to hear the original voices. Guess I'll play a lot more than once. Not that I'm complaining.

Can't really help you with the project sadly unless you count constant cheering..
 
- At least we have all characters in the Google Spreadsheet, so only left the JP names.
- Next, put that in the unitbase.dat.
- Also the undub.
- And trying to unpack the sound.pb and sound.ph file.
 
If you can you help, you can help us with translating the names. 0 japanese knowledge needed, but at least basic comprehension how names work would help, but like I said, for most of the cases, 0 japanese knowledge needed.

If you want to know how just open the spoiler, it will have the guide explaining what you need and how to do it.
Stuff Needed:
Japanse unitbase.dat - file where the japanese names are.
CrystalTile2 - Program to open unibase.dat

Internet Pages Needed:
Google Spreadsheet - The place to put the translated names.
Kanji Converter - To convert the kana into english words.
GameFaqs Guide - To compare names.

Got everything? Good. Now let's prepare your "workstation".

- Extract the folder inside CrystalTile2.rar to the desktop. Open CrystalTile2.exe.
- In the CrystalTile2 window click File>Open and now navigate to the JPunitbase.dat and open it. You probably have to choose "All Files" in the "Type of files" option because if not the file will not appear in the window.
- Now you'll see a huge amount of numbers on the left side (the hex code) and another huge amount of gibberish in the right side (the japanese names).
- In the "address" bar, in the right side, depending of your computer, you should see something written. In mine it appears "Europeu Ocidental (Windows) [Courier New]". Left click on that place and a list of options should appear. Here you have to choose the japanese option, in my screen it appears as "Japonês (Shift-JIS) -code page932".
- Now all that gibberish as japanase characters and look something along these lines:

- Now open all 3 internet pages. If you use tabs I suggest you put the Spreadsheet in one window and the other 2 links in another window.

Okay, now you're set to start translating the character names so let's do this.

Now, look at the CrystalTile2 window. You can notice that each character name has 3 lines and each character is separated by several dots.
I'll use the first name in the list as an example, Mamoru Endou.

???? - This is the full name of the character in kanji. You can discard this most of the times.
???? - This is the short name of the character. It can be the last name, the first name or a nickname.
???????? - This is the full name of the character in hiragana and where you should focus.

What you need to insert in the spreadsheet is the full name (divided by 1st and last) and the short name.
- While on the CrytalTile2 window copy the name you want to know and paste it on the Kanji Converter window. Be sure to check the option "Furigana New!" on the right side of the window, it will help you differentiate the first name from the last name. Don't forget! The last part is the first name and the first part is the last name. Use the space (" ") as a reference.

- Now you have your name. If it belongs to one of the teams in the game, you can search for its name in the GameFaq Guide to be sure you have the right person. Usually the members of the same team are all next to each other in the spreadsheet so be sure to confirm the names with the Guide.
- If the name doesn't belong to a team be sure you have the right name first. If you're sure it doesn't belong to a team try to find that person in the
Inazuma Eleven Wikia or in the list of characters of Wikipedia.

- If you still can't find any reference about it anywhere, post it and leave a comment on the right column detailing that.


And we that I guess you're ready to start translating Inazuma Eleven characters. Unfortunately you'll have to find the corresponding name in CrystalTile2, but that isn't very hard.
Since you already know where Mamoru Endou is and since the english names in the spreadsheet are in the same order you just have to count till you find the name you wanted to start editing. I know it isn't very practical but it's the only way as of now so bare with us! After that you can just record some kind of reference (like the kana of the last name your translated) and then use the "Search" function to find that place and continue from there.

Ok, we have a bit more than 200 names with their original names.
There are 66 characters that are NPC (like the guys that you fight in random battles) and that characters don't need translation.
The total of character are 1957, less the 66 NPC = 1891 characters that we need to translate.
(At the moment there are less than 1691 characters to be translated, we need help to did this faster!)
 
I checked everything out.
It seems really easy if everything is indeed in the right place.
All we have to do is just write down the romaji form of the names.
 
I'm asking again, are you people sure that changing the names in unitbase.dat also changes the names in the script ?

I can read Kana so i should be fairly fast, of course i'll cross check with the wikis etc...

Bravo on the uide explaining looks wonderful, just the first line isn't Katakana it's Kanji.

The main problem is how we actually verify the Japanese names match with the English.
Does anybody have a foolproof method?
