Would Pune's Onheswazenegger (?!) app help here? Having the ability to write to a NAND/edit one may be of help.
I was going to suggest that, but so far every time I have suggested it a bunch of people have jumped all over me for it.
I...think I was one of those guys at one such occasion. Can't speak on behalf of the others, but I can say that I'm sorry if I gave you the impression of disapproval. I had my doubts about things, but you responded with proper arguments.

I'll try that Schwartenager (Well that's what it reminds me of anyway) program as soon as I get home. I'm performing right now though. I'll try that other program as well! I really thought it was the end of the line for my poor Wii, but I see a glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel! Thanks again, but please know that this topic is NOT closed! Please wait until I get back to ya'll with my results after I try these recommended methods 2 days from now! Thanks!

Did you have any luck?

Yeah, I would only ever recommend removing bootmii from boot2 if and only if someone wanted to virginize. But no matter what, after making the nand.bin you MUST run it through punes nandbinchecker app. Of course nothing is %100, but I have enough faith in punes app that if someone does end up getting a full brick after using his app then I would do the repair for free as long as the person can provide me with their dumped nand.bin and the built nand.bin, of course the person would still have to pay shipping.

But in the case of sending a wii to nintendo for repair, either way it is a win/win. Either everything will work out fine and N won't find any signs of homebrew, or the wii will be bricked and N still won't find signs of homebrew and they will repair it. You can't lose.

I still think you need a new dvd drive. If anyone doubts this, unplug your dvd drive from you wii and you will replicated the OP's issue 100%.

You can't hurt anything by building a new nand and restoring it with bootmii, but I don't think it will work. Give it a try, and if the issue persists, get a new dvd drive.

You know I'm not 100% but I'm pretty certain I've ran a wii with no dvd drive and no problems at some point over the past few years. Like I say, can't remember 100% but I'm pretty sure I did this and it worked fine. I think I was just curious at the time how it would act.
If I get bored over the weekend I might give it another test

I've ran a wii with no dvd drive and no problems

I thought you needed at least the board as "checking" for a drive was a part of the Wii bootup, why the drive spins at switch on

LOL, you got there before I thought about it and now I've edited the post, I THINK I did it, can't be 100% certain though.

In fact, thinking harder about it, I forgot to plug in dvd drives many a time, used to fit modchips and a couple of times I remember steaming on and putting the wii back together, boot it up and realise I haven't plugged the thing back in. Still pretty certain it boots fine though, just doesn't power up the drive as it aint there.

Plus there was a guy on here who modded his case (albeit not very nicely, lol) but he got rid of the dvd drive and just had a hdd.
Sod it, I'll take mine apart at the weekend, I am a stoner mind so theres a good chance I could have remembered this wrong, lol. But sod it, as long as I get ten mins on the weekend I'll test it out see if I really am crazy, lol

No you did not. The wii will not load dvds, will not load channels, will not load usb games without a dvd drive.

That is COMPLETELY false. The wii that I have for my family has the DVD drive completely removed, and it has been like that for well over a year now and it does not give me a single issue. All games load fine. The SM loads fine. All channels load fine. The wii continues to work as if it did have a drive in it, but it does not have one. No issues at all.

Well the wii I have, if you remove the DVD drive, nothing works. All the wii channels give disc read error, USB loading gives disc read error. It is a newer wii, I will test with my older wii tonight

Okay so I formatted my existing 4.2u backup NAND.BIN with ohnesswanzenegger, built a new one with the same 4.2u system menu, ran the new NAND.BIN through nandbincheck, and got this 003 error!

I will be pulling the DVD drives out of my wiis tonight to confirm your issue. The last time I saw some with this issue, disconnecting the drive duplicated the issue. However, with deadlyfoez response I will verify again. I am positive that your issue is with your drive and the a wii can not function with a bad drive very well, it causes all sort of havoc.

How old is your wii? What SM is it on? Those things might be what is making the difference. But there certainly is no bullshit here. I had to take the drive out of my kids wii when I accidently busted the drive on my tech wii. Its been running for well over a year now without a drive. It's mostly boots straight into wiiflow, but like today I went into the SM so I could launch a wiiware game and it worked without a hitch.

Come on, as someone else mentioned, there have been ppl who mod their wii and take out the dvd drive and put a hard drive inside. Lots of ppl have done that and they aren't complaining of not being able to launch games and such. How can you call BS on this?

I'm not even sure what SM my family's wii is on. I haven't updated it in forever.

It is an lu65, SM 4.1, and it does almost nothing without a DVD drive. If you think it is the wii, I have an older one I can test as well. The op is not the first to have this issue, replacing the DVD drive seems to do the trick.
