Hacking I'm an idiot

@TJ (and any1 else who may have an opinion), do u think I should NOT add a virginize option to NUSAD?

nar leave it out, if you wanted your wii back to its original state why you hack it in the first place, its like a woman asking for her hymen back

after she's been pounded

Oh yeah, I should have asked this but does updating your wii via nintendo having the HBC only remove your HBC or do you brick your wii?

Oh god not another Pussieloader joke

The Freudian slip at the end is what makes it comedy gold.

@Vlugge Japie: AFAIK, the update only stubs certain homebrew ios'es, and removes things such as priiloader. If it's something actually installed to your wii (ie - priiloader, hbc) you will probably have to re-install. Anything loaded from sd or usb (wiiflow, mplayer ce) it should be fine.

If you have a Homebrew Channel with the Title ID "HAXX," and you update to 4.2, then that version of the Homebrew Channel will be removed from your console. However, if you installed the newest version of the Homebrew Channel, with Title ID "JODI," it would not get removed when updating to 4.2.

For the people that have to send their wii back to ninty and want ninty to think "Wow, a virgin Wii! Don't see many of those around here."

Couldn't he, assuming his Wii is capable / low enough version boot2, install a different wii dump (bootmii) merged with his own (via Infectus); make a dump of his nand and then replace his boot2 with bootmii? Then bootmii should be able to start and from there as long as he has at least one IOS that still works and is compatible he could start the homebrew channel from there and reinstall the required IOS.
=edit=
Ah, reads back the topic instead of the first post and the last page and sees it was already suggested ^^

Thx for the input DeadlyFoez and Pepxl... I was leaning towards adding it as a feature, but I think u guys are right, and I should NOT add it (even though it would be pretty easy to add and I'm certain I can make the process a little easier than what's described in the complete softmod guide)

@ DeadlyFoez, do u happen to know what traces are left behind? This is what I would do to virginize a wii (which I would never REALLY do), can u tell me what I am forgetting to clean up /virginize?

-run nand clean to remove everything
-update boot2 using dop-mii (I know its dangerous, and I wouldn't recommend it, but it is part of the updating/virginizing process)
-use any title deleter or MMM to remove IOSs' from 202-250
-Using a wad manager, update to 4.2 and install all active non-fakesigned IOSs and Stubs (using an IOS with the version patch so that even corp'ed IOSs will be overwritten) -- this will also uninstall priiloader
-then run the hackmii installer to uninstall the HBC, DVDx and bootmii as IOS (bootmii @ boot2 should have already been removed when updating boot2 with dop-mii)

Shouldn't that cover up most if not all softmodding tracks? Or does dop-mii/wad manager install things differently than ninty, and that's why there are traces?

Since he has a modchip can't he just make autoboot discs to still be able to play games? I mean, yeah it sucks not having a system menu, but it's better than nothing.

Not sure if this would be possible, but an autoboot version of Brawl could in theory be used to load Smash Stack (since that exploit loads purely from SD, no NAND copying required) and just use that to chainload Wad Manager. Once he had that up, just install some version of IOS70 and he's back in business.

Now someone tell me why that wouldn't work. :-)

What if we were to use bootmii to restore the very first nand backup we have (so the only softmods on the nand backup should be the HBC, bootmii and/or DVDx), then launch the hackmii installer and uninstall everything, then do an official update... would that work?

FYI, I totally agree with u, I'm just curious right now that's all...

but seriously, if your wii needs to be sent back to nintendo, its bound to be too damaged to even virginize it properly... so there really is no point to virginizing any wii... either its softmodded and u can pointlessly virginize it... or it broke during a softmod, and there is likely no way to virginize it before sending it to ninty (otherwise it wouldn't be broken!)

thx man, that answers my question... and it also leads me to believe that there is no good reason to ever virginize a wii... the only somewhat acceptable reason is if u are selling your wii to some1 who does not want a modded wii... of course this is stupid, because no1 would ever prefer a virgin wii over a modded one (there's a reason why modded wii's sell for double the price on ebay, lol).

your right but still no one ever likes sloppy seconds lol especially if you dont know what been there

I always assumed that frying the NAND was the only foolproof way. If you wanted to see what was different, I'd do a dump on a real virgin Wii, softmod it, use it a little, uninstall everything you can, do another dump and diff the two.

We really need to discourage this virginization shit, it's misleading and pointless.

Xflak: as long as there is an option to make a clean NAND kit for SNEEK installs I'm happy.

The only way that I can see to completely remove ALL traces of homebrew is through comex's nand formatter and then remove bootmii from boot2 using an infectus. But even with that, nintendo would be able to tell that their setup discs were not run and then they'd have a reason to suspect that someone did some funny stuff.

All in all, virginizing a wii so you can send it to nintendo is pointless. The only other way to not get caught when sending a soft modded wii to nintendo would be to fry it completely.
