My friend has got his DS for around one year and a half.
I've had mine for three years and a half.

He got a screen protector on his touch screen.
I have no screen protector on my touch screen.

He didn't even finish any of the Pokémon Ranger once. Currently playing through TWEWY.
I've finished the first Pokémon Ranger about 5 times and the second one twice. Finished TWEWY.

His DS has both sides of the hinge cracked and the screen protector is damaged to the point AKAIO looks bad.
My DS has no cracked hinge, the touch screen doesn't have anything on it and AKAIO looks nice on it.

Your friend obviously doesn't know how to take care of his shit, and you obviously do. The fact that your friend sucks at taking care of his stuff doesn't mean that screen protectors are worthless at all. I have screen protectors on my DS Phat that I got right after the DS was originally released and I beat many games on it till about half a year ago and the screens are fine. I have upgraded to a DSi XL and I just put Hori screen protectors on it and they work like a dream.

Alright, I bought the hori, followed the directions perfectly, funny thing, this one was the worst, I tried reapplying it but there was to much particles already stuck to it, I heard you can wash it, I tried that and it got worse...Is this some sort of joke?

What...the...hell....

I guess they were fake like some others cheap or bad quality protectors. It happens to me one time too. But with good protectors and little practice and skill you longer your screen life with no bubbles no fingerprints and no pain to remove them. Try some cleaner but not any with solvent or you will badly damage your screen. Try to found something like a biodegradable solution especially designed for cleaning TFT & LCD screens like Jelt E-net Vapo it works for computers too. Be careful anyway. Same if some liquid run inside the DS. I damage one screen one time nevermore. My DS are working just as fine with screen protectors than without or even better since there is less reflection on screen.

No these were the real ones, I made sure I got them from a good source this time, I even checked the sticky and they are real for sure.

Also, I just played some wario Touched without it(testing the grounds) It seems fine...I am not that rough while playing, I think I spent about 20 dollars on 3 different protectors so far...Kinda peeved here.

A new touch screen is only about $15. I figure I'll just play directly on mine and just replace it later if I think it's needed.

Is this what you speak of http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3245 ?

I noticed these are made of glass, that would mean they do not scratch if I am not mistaken(Had many glass devices, iphones for instance do not scratch because of the glass screen, same for zunes.)

Guess I should just play it and get this latter on.
