Can you change the font / font size? If so, than this is everything I need in an ebook reader! =P
Yep, you get a choice of two fonts (serif and sans serif) and you can change the font size from eye-strainingly small to my-first-book huge.

Very, very nice reader.
It looks great, it works, and I really appreciate the option to set ultra small fonts that show more lines at once and still look great on the XL !
I feel this could become my favorite reader soon !
There is just one thing that I wanted to ask, even though it might never happen ( it doesn't hurt to ask, right ?

):
I mainly use those DS readers to check game FAQs, not really to read books (sadly I know how illiterate am I ) and I can still manage to do that on IkuReader, but still when you load up a plain Gamefaqs .txt file, it looks all messed up because te original guide is usually something like 80 characters long and when it looses the original format.....it becomes a mess.
There is another excellent reader out there, but sadly it never got too much support ( TextDS2 ) which does just that, it displays the full width page and the user could scroll left and right...up and down.
It's an excellent way to display game faqs !
Any plans of adding anything of the sort ?
By the way , did I mention how much I like Ikureader already ? The best looking fonts so far !
Thanks.

Update.
- changed the way settings are saved, no more weird bugs hopefully
- latest page is saved every time a page is turned. If appears slow for someone, will be reverted

Arm73 Thanks. Sorry but no, I'm too lazy to do horizontal scrolling

Actually any ttf font will do.
From my opinion system fonts like arial or georgia a far better then the free ones included.
Unfortunately there's licensing issues there.

I have a small list of freeware fonts I've found here, if it's any help.

Yes, I used the actual names.

I'm still getting the same problem

If it helps any, I'm using a Supercard DSTwo and loading iku.nds with hbmenu. The official loader for the dstwo loads iku fine though, but its a pain to have to load different menus just to load one file. I know that hbmenu passes the current file location in argv(), would it make much difference to your code if you loaded the files from global locations rather than local ones? eg "fat:/iku-data/fonts/" rather than just "/iku-data/fonts/" or would that break something?

New version! Rendering off small fonts improved VASTLY. The screenshot may not show it but on actual DS it looks way better.

spinal_cord I'll do something about it tomorrow

Rydian Why? You bought your OS along with it's fonts, are you afraid of being legally followed for using them in your DS?

is there a way to change the paths? like data/iku and media/ebooks.

anyway, its a great tool. now i dont need my m3 anymore for readingt txt sideways

just about to try this... i wanna see this rendering they're all talking about.

been a DSlibris user for quite some time now, with a buncha books i manually converted to .xml for this, mostly H.P. Lovecraft (actually, i think it's ALL of his public domain works), and a some oldschool faves like Jonathan Livingston Seagull. it works well enough for me, but i admit that the fonts do look a bit rough sometimes, although you can customize them (and i did).

one thing i really did miss though--losing the images from The Little Prince. that's like losing half the charm of the book. of course, i could try going the CBDS route, but i guess i'm not a big fan of horizontal scrolling much.

A little update.
- books folder no longer required: file browser should start in the same folder last book was opened from
- fixed recent book not always saved

If settings still don't save for you, well maybe it's only you. Only two people complained so far.

Great work with the IkuReader, I really appreciate it. It looks exactly how I imagined a NDS e-book reader to be. However, I got some issues, probably connected with the changes I made on the SD card.

I managed to run IkuReader smoothly yesterday on my Supercard with newest EOS and MS 2.10 installed. Today, I wanted to make a small revolution by uninstalling the operating system that SC Team officially supports and getting Moonshell 2.10 booting on startup (was using this guide http://www.scdev.org/forum/index.php/topic,15182.0.html). It worked perfectly but when I try to launch IkuReader now, I'm getting a similar issue to one that was mentioned by spinal_cord . The letters are kind of 'squeezed' and blurry making it impossible to read anything. Also, the time necessary for the application to load is longer than before.

I copied all files to the root of my SD card so I think that I'm not making a mistake anywhere.
Is there something that can be done with this?

I'm using IkuReader or I won't read e-books on my DSi at all! ;P .

Unfortunately, it didn't work

. Tried to patch manually 'iku.nds' with no positive result - the file patched successfully but letters are still illegible. Then used firmware writer but also without succeeding in any way.

this doesn't work for me... when I boot it up it says mounting (forgot what else)... done and then it says it cannot load font...

???

I have an acekard2i with a sandisk 4 gig micro with DS Lite

i used this on my dstwo as a plugin but when i put iku.nds into the _dstwoplug folder it didn't found the iku-data folder in the root. if i move the iku-data to _dstwoplug it doesn't find the fonts. so i have to use 2 iku-data folders.

This is my first chance to get to use it and so far I think it's the best reader I've used.
I do have a few suggestions though...[*]Maybe change the folder structure.
  • Some homebrew already uses a /DATA/ folder, often times having a /FONTS/ subfolder
  • Make /DATA/IKU have all bookmarks and settings, /DATA/FONTS/ have fonts to be more 'compatible' with other homebrew.
[*]Have the browser respect the Hidden attribute of folders and Better Alphabetical order.
  • My root directory looks like this:
    • Lameboy
      DSOrganize (*=hidden)
      MOONSHL2 (*)
      SYSTEM (*)
      __AIO (*)
      nesDS
      DS Games
      HOMEBREW
      IKU-DATA (*)
      eBooks

Also it seems to capitalize names that are all lower case
[*]Have the Close button/block close the menu, and add a Files block if possible.[*]Font block open a browser for Fonts rather than blindly cycling through.[*]Have the Size and Style buttons open a selection menu if possible.[*]Fix the Name in the Header.
  • Currently it is called "sandbox/iku.nds". Maybe change it to:
    • IkuReader
      An eBook and Text reader

k, i don't get whats goin on... it won't load for me...

first it said it couldn't load the font... then I put the iku-data folder into the root of my m/s but it says it can't locate it and that I should put the iku-folder in the root.... but it's already there???

Nevermind I got it... I had to put the .nds file in the root also... lame... I like to have the .nds files in my Apps folder... makes the root too cluttered//
