So I decided to restore a nand backup of my wii and it ran through the simulation perfectly and then I started the actual restore when everyone's worst nightmare happens. I heard tires squeal, then the crash, then the power going out (this happens quite frequently where I live unfortunately). So I'm fuming for a couple hours while I wait for the electric company to fix the downed lines and once they do I try to turn on my wii (I have bootmii as an IOS so I was freaking out), turns out it hadn't gotten to any flashing yet. No brick on a power outage during a restore, how lucky can you get although now I'm afraid to try it again.
