i mean exactly what i said and what you typed. they did 3 hardware revisions and not all of them can be updated.

Can the one that you linked be updated so that it will work with a new firmware version of the 3DS, assuming that a team creates an update for the card?

i did not review the card and have not received updated samples. you would need to contact rydian and ask. i only have the card with the 1.4.1 sticker which i think can be updated for 1.4.2, but i'm not sure about 1.4.3 and 3ds 2.1. perhaps poking around their web site would be a good place to start researching, rydian links to the site in his review.

Do you have any suggestions on places to purchase from (that offer free shipping)? I don't care if it's from China.

you need to know that ak2i is not a pre-flashed card, means it can not work on your 2.1.0-4 out of box, so if you have another DS or DSi to update the ak2i, then feel free to buy the Acekard 2i and use your DS to update it. Or else, just choose the R4i gold 3ds which can work on your console directly.

Wrong, wrong, right, sort of right.

Some Ak2i's are pre-flashed. Actually most of them. And they can work out of box. You do need a DS (Phat/Lite) or a DSi on which it works to update it.

Not all R4i's are pre-flashed. Some can't even be flashed at all.

1.4.1 was released before 2.1, and in most cases 2.1 requires a new bootloader. on gen-3 flash kits 2.1 might only require a new data file and not a full bootloader reflash. it depends on the flash kit really.

As I know,the R4i Gold 1.4.1 no longer produced by the factory,if you dout wether the R4i Gold support 3DS 2.1.0-4,just order one which Rydian reviewed from http://www.r4ds-ds.com/products/R4i-Gold-3DS-Card-p-246.html ,which you can use directly outbox with your 2.1.0-4 system.

i have acekard 2i on my 3ds with the latest firmware and it works great! ive been using the acekard since the dsi first came out and before that i used R4. honestly i think acekard is better because of the AKAIO Teams firmware and they update pretty often. Then again R4 has the R4 Wood team... they are both good but i would go with acekard.

The DSTwo can update itself even if you have already updated your 3DS and can't boot it. Not to mention the DSTwo also has an in game text reader and save state support (lets you save DS games at any time).
