All the tutorials I've seen suggest installing patched IOS56 and IOS57
versions via the D2X cIOS installer to 249 and 250. However, when
using those in USB Loader GX, my USB drives are never mounted and I
end up with the 'USB not initialized' message.
When looking at SysCheck's output, I noticed that only IOS58 lists USB
2.0, so I tried using IOS58 as the 'loader IOS' in USB Loader GX, and
with that one, it was able to list the files from my flash drive. But
loading an actual game on IOS58 failed still.
So I figured I'll install a patched version of IOS58 using cIOS into
slot 251. I did that, and using IOS58 as the loader IOS and IOS251 as
the game IOS, I was able to load the two games I was using for testing
(Rythm Heaven Fever and Super Mario Galaxy 2).
Now, my remaining problems are the following:
- The games are quite slow to start; in particular, SMG2 takes ~17
seconds to go from showing the three planets representing the three
saved game slots, to allowing me to select one of them.
- The above only works with one USB flash drive and one USB HDD out of
two flash drives and three HDDs I tried; and the one HDD it does
work with was a loaner. Any idea why it might not work with the
other two HDDs? I'm using FAT32 file system.
