Apple I Am Quite Impressed By The Ipod Touch

Hey people.

Well from a while back I've been contemplating whether I should buy an Ipod Touch or not. Well yeah, I finally decided to purchase one a few days ago and man am I impressed.


I bought the Ipod Touch 4th Gen 8GB. I wanted to get at least the 32GB but they didn't have any in stock so I just got that one instead.

Well today, I jailbreaked and it's the type of stuff you get to do on the device is amazing.

At the beginning I was lost on what to do with Cydia etc. But after a few tinkering around on the webz + Cydia I found out you can add "sources" etc to make life easier and make things free ^__^. Well I now have a bunch of things installed like SBSettings, Cydia, Winterboard & *snip. Haven't tried Winterboard yet but can't wait.

Also installed Androidlock XT and it makes it seem much more cooler haha.

I have a few negative things about it so far though...
I don't understand why I need to put Credit card info to download free apps on the Apps store =/. Can't get that Facebook app yet.
My Ipod Touch is 8GB but it actually turned out to be 6.46GB LoL... >__> But whatever haha and that's about it so far for negative things.

That's because advertisng marks 1KB=1000bytes (and so on for MB and GB...), while computers and devices use 1KB=1024bytes. Plus some of the space is taken up by system stuff, and you have already used some space...

Nope. Coming right out of the box it was 6.4GB. I understand they used around 2gigs for system apps etc but I somewhat feel cheated...

The problem is that in marketing 1gigabyte is not the same as in computing. Devices advertise storage space by counting in 1000's. 1 kilobytes = 1000 bytes etc. However computers have always counted in base 2 (you have heard of binary) and the closest they can get to 1000 (easily) is 1024, so in computing, 1 kilobyte = 1024 bytes. The larger the amount, the bigger the difference between the two number versions.
So your 8gb iPod probably only has an actual size of 7.4gb, together with the space required by iOS (which is probably locked out from the end user), leaving you with 6.4gb for your content.
