Since the 5.5.1 exploit came out I've started poking at the save files for Hyrule Warriors. I'm not planning on making an editor but I thought I'd dump what I've got here for people with the basic hex editor know-how to use.
  • There's no checksum - edit at will
  • All data is stored big-endian (this is the opposite of the 3DS save file)
  • Keep backups.
  • This is from the EUR version. Assuming the situation is the same as the 3DS locale doesn't matter.

Important note for injecting your save file with Saviine.
Your APP.BIN file must be be stored under
saviine_root\inject\[hyrule warriors id]\[user id]\ProjectZ-SAVEDATA\APP.BIN
If you do not have the ProjectZ-SAVEDATA folder Hyrule Warriors will be unable to load the newly injected save.

@marc_max has made an editor that can apply most of this stuff without needing a hex editor.
Hyrule Warriors [Wii] save editor.
Reminder — the max EXP value for a character is: 12842457
The easiest way to level to 255 is to set their EXP to that and play a level with the character. The first time you kill something the game will level you up correctly, do not quit the level early or you'll lose both the new level, and the EXP value will not be at the maximum any more.

Weapon Editing
Thanks to @link666 and @Ailuros27 in the 3DS thread for the structure
and to @ScarletKohaku for doing the weapon/skill ID work for the 3DS version.

A helpful spreadsheet and details on how to use it can be found here.
Code:
##Weapon Editing
Weapons begin at 0x8D74C
Each weapon is 76 (0x4C) bytes long
The last weapon starts at 0xA08C8 giving a total of 1030 weapon slots.

They are not grouped by weapon type. New weapons go into the first empty weapon
slot, deleting/fusing weapons leaves a hole with weapons either side.
The game therefore parses the entire list each time it tries to load weapons and
only shows ones relevant to the type selected — weapon swaps are not possible.

The structure is as follows:
WT 00 00 00 ID ID ID ID BP BP ST ST S1 S1 S1 S1 S2 S2 S2 S2 S3 S3 S3 S3 S4 S4 S4 S4 S5 S5 S5 S5 S6 S6 S6 S6 S7 S7 S7 S7 S8 S8 S8 S8 K1 K1 K1 K1 K2 K2 K2 K2 K3 K3 K3 K3 K4 K4 K4 K4 K5 K5 K5 K5 K6 K6 K6 K6 K7 K7 K7 K7 K8 K8 K8 K8
The default empty weapon slot looks like this:
00 00 00 00 FF FF FF FF 00 00 00 00 FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

All values are big-endian which means in most cases the first 3 bytes of a
4 byte value will be 00. For example the Master Sword will have an ID of:
00 00 00 3D

WT = Weapon Type (1 byte)
ID = Weapon ID (4 bytes)
BP = Base Power (2 bytes)
ST = Stars (2 bytes)
S1 - S8 = Skill 1 - Skill 8 (4 bytes per skill)
K1 - K8 = KOs to Unlock Skill 1 - Skill 8 (4 bytes per skill)

————————————————————————————————————————————————
Weapon Type

00 - No Weapon
03 - Weapon
13 - Weapon with "Legendary" skill (locked or unlocked)
0B - Weapon with "Evil's Bane" skill (locked or unlocked) i.e. Master Sword.
02 - New weapon. This is a weapon that has been granted (maybe only by an
Amiibo) since the last time the game checked the 10 weapon maximum. If you
are over the 10 weapon limit at this check this weapon will be marked as
"New". Once the check is complete the value will change to 0x03. There may
be similar versions for the other weapon types (guessing: 12 and 0A
respectively.) I have some tests to make on the matter but the value
appears to be a bitmask so more esoteric combinations might be available.

KOs to unlock

This is just a hexadecimal number tracking the remaining KOs needed to unlock
the skill. If it is 00 the skill is already unlocked. Setting to 00 Will not
unseal Legendary/Evil's Bane but will still alter the KOs needed.

##Missable Tutorial
0x2814D
As far as known the only thing missable for 100% completion is a single tutorial
"Giant Bosses" is only unlocked when King Dodongo reaches West Field Keep the
first time you play the first mission. If you defeat him before that point
the level will complete and you will forever be unable to trigger that tutorial

The bytes in this region seem to hold a series of bitmasks which flag the
tutorials you have/have not seen. This byte holds the information for
"Giant Bosses".

You need to add 0x10 to the existing value.

For example, working from the same clean save and completing the first level
gave
0x02 when the tutorial had been missed.
and
0x12 when the tutorial was not missed.

My normal save had a value of
0x2B
Adding 0x10 to this to give me
0x3B
Successfully unlocked the "Giant Bosses" tutorial

You can view tutorials on the pre-mission information page
(i.e. the last thing page you see before choosing start mission)

And for anyone curious, it does not appear to be missable on the 3DS version

Complete any one mission, might have to be an adventure mode mission,
and the badge will be awarded.

##Medal - amiibo Warriors
0x13F58 (4 Bytes)
00 00 00 64 = 100
Complete a mission and it should get awarded.

N.b. it's likely the progress of other badges is tracked in roughly this same region.

You mean the adventure mode items? The 3DS editor that's been made only lets you set them to 5, I don't actually know why that's the case and whether there'd be implications on either system for setting them higher.

Try it (backups!) and post the results here. Especially if it successfully displays more than 5 what happens when you use one?

This is the wrong thread to be looking in for free DLC. I doubt save editing would enable that and I won't be looking in the file for it anyway.

I have a challenge for you.

Location for where the tutorial entries are flagged as "learned". IIRC, there's one missable entry, which is the Big Bosses one.

And there's one lesser known thing that really nobody cares about except for me:

Each time you upgrade a character's combo skill, there's actually a flag for when the game displays "New!" or something in the Combo List menu. Upon opening that Combo List in the pre-start menu of a map, it'll make it go away.

When I'm home I can talk more about it, but basically what I've been doing since I started the game, each time I get one of those combo badges, I'd load up a map, go to "Combo List" to make the flag disappear lol. I would do this every time I upgraded the combos lol. I was really anal about it for some reason.

It's like that because 5 is the maximum you can carry. Setting it higher will work but it's pointless to set it above 6. If you set it to any number between 7 and 255 it will reduce the amount to 5 as soon as you use one.
Hmm gonna play with this later. To max out the items is it FF like the 3ds?
Depends on what you're maxing out. Materials max out at 999 so that would be 03E7.

That's actually on my todo list! I missed it too… granted I can see it on the 3DS where it's not missable.

Erm... If anybody wants it, I could probably throw together a bad console save editor at some point this week. Won't be pretty but it should work and save you looking through your save via hex editing.

I'm not expecting this to be crafted into a save editor but has anyone discovered the addresses so weapons can be edited? Been asking around and I cant tell if anyone has found it.

I'm dumping my save file right now so I have something current to look at, and will continue with that once I get the memory addresses sorted out.

**EDIT**
Weapon data begins at 0x8D750. Use @ScarletKohaku's pastebin for weapon information. I ask you don't mess with stuff you don't know until I have confirmed if the structure is the same as the 3DS version. I do not know if any of the new skills made it to the Wii U version, but I do not believe they have. There are also level 4 weapons in the 3DS version which I do not believe exist in the Wii U version. I'll confirm all this and update this post in a little bit.

**EDIT 2**
Finished. As expected, the data is infact different due to the Wii U using Big Endian rather than Little Endian. As I did in the 3DS thread, I'll post and image here of the relevant data.

Anything in red is stuff I changed for clarity.

Data Structure is as follows:
00 00 00 36 = weapon ID (Ghirrahim Demon Blade leve 1)
00 50 = Weapon Base Strength
00 01 = Weapon Stars
11 11 11 11 = Slot 1 Information (00 00 00 03 = Strength 3)
22 22 22 22 = Slot 2
33 33 33 33 = Slot 3
44 44 44 44 = Slot 4
55 55 55 55 = Slot 5
66 66 66 66 = Slot 6
77 77 77 77 = Slot 7
88 88 88 88 = Slot 8
99 99 99 99 = Kills to Unlock Slot 1
AA AA AA AA = Kills to Unlock Slot 2
BB BB BB BB = Kills to Unlock Slot 3
CC CC CC CC = Kills to Unlock Slot 4
DD DD DD DD = Kills to Unlock Slot 5
EE EE EE EE = Kills to Unlock Slot 6
FF FF FF FF = Kills to Unlock Slot 7
10 10 10 10 = Kills to Unlock Slot 8
03 00 00 00 = Weapon Identifier (See Pastebin)

It looks like some new skills didn't make it to the game. Of the ones I tested, Food+, Hammer+, VS Sea, Vs Termina did not make it into the game. It seems like the second Master Sword skill did make it however. I cannot confirm that though as I do not have all weapons unlocked yet, but I believe it works. Some of you may notice that Slots and Kill Requirements are now 32bit instead of 8 and 16bit. This would account for a fairly significant portion of the size difference between the 3DS and Wii U save files.

I'm currently busy with some RL stuff but as soon as I'm done here I'll try this out myself and post how it goes. Thank you for your efforts, much appreciated sir.

Yay! I feel useful! I was going to look into the Wii U game but it turns out I left my copy at home, just my luck :') If there's anything of interest still not found when I go home and can play the game (the 20th), I'll have a look myself :3

Please make a save editor. It takes too much time to level the characters up...
(1,500 hours and counting; the max I have right now is Link on Level 102)

If you know how to do basic hex editing, there's enough information in the first post to level your characters ^^

Edit: I tried quoting the relevant info but it went wrong ;o;

It's not cheating but I used link at the Twilight map and did the mission where you fight 15 dark Ganondorf a, if you use a light weapon, exp+, exp potion, and magic bonus you will get to lv 250 in less than 30 mins.

Afterwards you can buy everyone into 250 using training dojo and max rupee cheat.
