We dont know, but I am edging towards activation upon every startup. Much like the 3DS used to be.

Of course it's temporary, just like the 3DS exploits. You'll have to boot into emunand or whatever everytime you power on the console (unless some sort of autoboot is found)

Not that anyone seems to believe me but after exiting from a game my dns switched to auto-detect and the console started the download for the update. Which I managed to cancel.

this never happened to me, been using tubehax dns for a very long time and it never goes back to "auto obtain" for me ._.

I just want cheats, grinding in Hyrule Warriors is such a pain

Same. I have two WiiU's one on 5.3.2 and one on 5.5.0 but all my save data for games like Xenoblade and Hyrule Warriors are on the 5.5.0 WiiU. If anything I would love to put those on the other WiiU or have a way to mod them when the IOSU exploit is released.
