Installed an hwfly core (v2? The ribbon had M6-1 I think) about two weeks ago with no microscope. Fun fact, if you accidentally knock off the two tiny capacitors on the left side of the CPU it puts the switch into permanent airplane mode. No wifi or bluetooth. I had a hot air station, but no way was I going to try to reflow those tiny 201 capacitors without being able to see them so microscope ordered and capacitors fixed, yay! Fast forward another week and I updated from 13.x.x to 14.1.0 via the OWF. Now Hekate no longer worked, the chip would flash purple then change to green, but the OFW was already booting. Apparently this is a separate issue but it lead me to teardown and examination of my connections with the microscope. To my surprise, I had totally missed on SP1. No connection to either side of the capacitor. This leads to my question, how was the chip working with no connection to SP1? I had used it for almost two weeks with no issues and likely would have used it longer if not for the update snafu.

Electronics work in mysterious ways.
SP1 is probably just connected to the power rail.
Likely 1 of the connections is just a ground connection that is connected somewhere else.
Maybe the other connection was just touching the capacitor.
Or something more scary was going on like power bleeding from somewhere else.

That must be rough. Productive I'm sure but hard to balance with daily life

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.

Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though

@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.

It was like all clear and fancy. Tbf I'm not too experienced with chess, but would like to learn someday.
