Hacking How to use checkpoint save manager?

Doing a Randomizer on Pokemon Sun, but don't want to lose my old save file. If I backup up my save file, and when I'm done with the randomizer click restore, does my save file return? Sorry if this is a dumb question, don't know that much about CFW, and just making sure.
