Assuming you have registered a project/created a repo and have all the relevant login details then most would use a git client of some form, if you are on Linux then the stock setup is probably what you want as a developer.
https://git-scm.com/book/en/v2/Git-Basics-Getting-a-Git-Repository has more on basic usage and anything I put here would probably just be copying it, maybe with a few choice things copied out of https://help.github.com/articles/create-a-repo/
For windows I quite like https://tortoisegit.org/ but I have not used it as a project owner/contributor so I can not back that 100%

I have already linked the basics but if you are not familiar with the terms (and they do use some odd ones if you are used to older version control type systems, though they do make sense for what they are) then probably best to also learn those.
