Hi Guys,

I am not sure how to format my new Seagate (STEA1000400) 1TB. I want to put my PKGs backups and install games using it as extend storage.
My questions is: Is possible to do that?

In case yes, do I have to format using "Format as Extended Storage" option in PS4's system or format using "exFAT" in windows system?

Thanks.

You can format via the ps4 using "Format as Extended Storage", but you will only be able to access the external drive on the PS4 since it will no longer be visible to Windows. So if you want to add additional PKG backups onto that drive, you will have to use another usb-enabled drive or ftp the pkg into the ps4. If the drive is external with a case and usb 3.0 slot, you can format it using exFAT and then play the PKG backups off that drive while attached to the ps4.

You can't put stuff directly on to an extended format PS4 HDD, you probably got it mixed up with external HDD. External HDD with App2USB allows you to move package onto the HDD and install onto the system.

So my only option is App2USB since I want to put more stuff directly. My only problem is that App2USB move all games from PS4 Storage to the external HDD. I would like to chose the games that I want.

You can choose which games you want to move to the external HDD. You can have some on the ps4 drive, while keeping some on the external HDD.

You would get a lot of empty folder when you run app2usb but you can ignore that, the app only move what is under "Example ignore or move usage" in the App2usb config file. you need to list the CUSA# of games you want to move.

I think you should use HEN 1.7, so you can directly install games from exFAT usb device to PS4 extended storage. App2USB is useless now. :)

I know about that. But my largest USB flash drive is 32GB. I won't be able to install some games.

I disagree with App2USB being useless now. I have an 8tb HDD that I move PKGs easily and quickly from the pc to the ps4, without having the HDD being limited to access only via the ps4. But if there's an easier way, please share it. Thanks.

Using extended format requires you to have extra storage on hand and extra slot of usb port as oppose to app2usb require only one port and allow you to use it with PC.

I'm waiting for a ps3 friwnsly option. But not sure if it will even happen. I like to acess the hdd from ps too plus will be good to homebrew stuff in the future.
Not recomend ps4 extended format at all. Imagine all the work you will have when a new option comes?

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

    To me that seems reasonable.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150

Yeah it's all choice and that's a good thing :)
