Back when I was a kid, I used this wii app called Neogamma to play discs that had games burned into them. Then in highschool, a friend gave me a wii game that required a system update. As a result, Neogamma no longer worked. Is it possible to reverse this update? Also I'm pretty sure this means my wii is modded. Can I install more efficient piracy programs?

I would advise to check out Modmii, which is still being supported to this day.

Better to just USB load those games with Nintendont and do not try and downgrade your Wii, too many people have bricked their consoles trying to do that.

Agreed, it's better to use a usbloader, but if you want to restore neogamma backup disk loading functionality (assuming the wii hardware is capable) after an official update at a minimum u just need to reinstall cios249, this can be done using modmii or wii.hacks.guide

Don't use NeoGamma. It's very outdated.

Also use ModMii's SysCheck updater. 4.3, being the latest, works with everything these days.

What you can do is download the Wii system menu alongside the necessary IOS and install them with your preffered WAD manager.
Don't forget to install IOS58 for Homebrew and a BootMii backup.
