Hacking How to "correctly" update VitaHBB, Retroarch, ...

I couldn't find any information on how to correctly upgrade a homebrew which one has previously installed using a VPK file and Vitashell. For example VitaHBB. Just execute the new version's VPK file in Vitashell and everything is fine? Or is it recommended to uninstall the old version via the main menu first (long-touch the bubble, then select uninstall)?

I just installed the VPK over the previous version and it works fine...

Besides Adrenaline, that you must open vpk file as zip, I do like deathboy, just install vpk and never had an issue.
