I am curious to know if it is safe using the USB Loader with the Wii. I am using a WD My Passport Essential, which draws it's power from the USB ports. Now the Wii has 2 USB ports, but was it designed to power such a USB device? Don't want to kill my system quicker than it needs to be.

Yes. This is completely safe. The Wii isn't giving power to the DVD drive so any extra power is going to your HD. This is completely safe. No one has had any problems with this.
They are standard USB ports, they are designed to supply power like this. There is absolutely no reason why they wouldn't... The WD passports (I have one as well) are designed to use what a USB port supplies, and the wii USB port supplies it. Why would there be any issue at all with this?
All The Wii has to do is draw more power from its socket in the wall... It's not that big of a deal. The worst thing that could happen is that your hard drive shuts off... The USB ports on your Wii are the same as Your Computer. No risk.

I guess there wouldn't. Just wasn't sure if there would be any problems from doing this. Since other devices are powered through the USB ports that are designed to be used with the Wii... there wouldn't be. So my mind is at ease now.
