Hacking How Open Is the Wii?

I was looking through the recent posts and cannot see anything on the state of devolpment to get code running on the wii. I saw at Xmas that somebody had managed to do this in a demostration at a conference in Germany. Has there been any progess since. On a side note, I have a wiikey installed, is there anyway to get the browser for wii and install it without having to pay nintendo?

Two types of "homebrew":

trucha signer: modified existing isos so far. Needs modchip.

twilight hack: Uses a bug in the save of Wii Zelda Twilight princess. Allows you to run code from the gamecube slot via a SD adapter or one of the USB Gecko devices. Several applications running but as it is only a few weeks old it is not too far advanced.
