There's no real danger unless you're blind or like skipping steps or slept like 1 hour in the day you're going to install.
And yes there's a reason for recommending a9lh because its future proof, fast and offers brick protection

I've installed A9LH on several systems now, without a single brick. My bricks seem to happen through human error or skipping step. It's extremely rare to brick if you just follow the guide.

But in all seriousness, I've yet to finish installing A9LH for the first time. I got bored halfway through setting it up on one of my 3DSes.
