I am pondering on when I should do it, either now or on a saturday afternoon.

I am going to re-watch supermodchip's video again but I roughly know what to do.

How long am I expecting for my first shot at taking this apart?

Hmm... I never replaced a shell but I guess that it's better in a Saturday afternnon... More free time means that you get more relaxed and take it easy... And if the night fall and you have to go to sleep you can go back to business in Sunday morning... which you can't today...

Wish you luck

look to waste, errr.. I mean spend about 2 or more hours if this is your first DS lite case swap. alternatively, if you feel that you're getting in over your head, you can send me everything to do it for you. your cost would be $16usd which includes return shipping costs.

^ ^ ^ ^

Lol, "thieves like us," huh...

Anyways def wait for a weekend. Keep everything together, and have a nice open clear workspace that can be left. In other words, dont use the dinner table.

The first time I replaced the shell (while looking at inscrutctional pictures) it took
roughly about 4 hours xD. But since you watched and probably memorized the
assembly videos, then it would probably take you 2 1/2 hours.

if anyone could help, was impatient and decided to do it, is the hinge supposed to be crooked? the LED doesn't line up...i have the clear shell...

around 2 hours and i was extra careful and slow because it was my first time~~
but if you dont force everything its easy

Took me about 3 hours the first time because I wanted to make sure everything was done carefully. After about 2-3 times taking apart, it takes about 1.5 hours.

It took me 4 hours, everything seems fine, just it's sticking out a little bit and squeaky but other than that.

Now hopefully next time it won't take as long lol.

Exactly. The top part is really tough, and I talk by experience. The only thing I did afterwards on mine was switch the buttons on the lower part to orange to give it a sort of Halloween effect (my DSL is black) - it was nearly Halloween back then.

Did you try to use the metal ring from your old shell? When I did mine, I tried to use all the old hardware, and when I tried to put it back together it didn't work because the metal rings were different. I had to use the one that came with the new shell.
